General Information and Setup
Attaching Chipper Chute
WARNING
Personal injury. Do not operate the unit with the hopper
or discharge chute removed. Doing so could cause
death, serious injury, property or equipment damage.

NOTE: 1/4-20 bolts and locknuts are pre-installed on the
guard assembly.
1. See Figure 2-8. Using a 7/16” and 3/8” wrench,
re
move a locknut (A) from one of the chipper chute
guard bolts (B), position it in chipper chute (C), and
loosely reinstall the locknut. Repeat for the second
locknut. Fully tighten both locknuts.
2. Atta
ch the chipper chute onto the housing studs
and secure with three 5/16-18 flange locknuts (D)
using a 1/2” wrench.

Attaching Discharge Deflector
1. See Figure 2-9. Secure one side of discharge
deflector (A) at the two mounting locations with
5/16-18 x .75 bolts and washers (B) using a 1/2”
wrench.
2. F
old the discharge deflector over and attach the
other side as in step 1.
NOTE: T
ighten bolts until rubber guard begins to deform.
Do not over tighten.

Installing and Maintaining the Spark
Arrestor
WARNING
Personal injury. Before performing any maintenance procedure
or inspection, stop the engine and allow all parts to cool.
Disconnect spark plug wire and keep spark plug wire away from
spark plug. Failure to do so could result in serious injury.

Under California law, and the laws of some other states,
operating an internal combustion engine using hydrocar-
bon fuels without an engine spark arrester is not permit-
ted. This also applies to operation on US Forest Lands.
All Generac Chipper with Shred
der units shipped to Cali-
fornia, New Mexico, and Washington State are provided
with
spark arresters. Failure of the owner or operator to
maintain this equipment in compliance with state regula-
tions is a misdemeanor under California law and may be
in vio
lation of other state and/or federal regulations. Con-
tact your State Park Association
or the appropriate state
organization for specific information in your area.
Installing Spark Arrestor
1. See Figure 2-10. Align holes in spark arrestor (A)
with holes in the muffler (B).
2. Se
cure spark arrestor with screws (C) using a
9/32” wrench or nut driver.
Maintaining Spark Arrestor
1. Remove screws securing spark arrestor to muffler
using a 9/32” wrench or nut driver.
2. R
emove spark arrestor.
NOTE: The amount of
carbon particulate will vary with
fuel used, air quality, engine condition, and age.
3. Clea
n spark arrestor screen with a soft non-metal-
lic brush.
4. Inspe
ct screen for any tears, rips, or other damage
which will prevent the screen from operating prop-
erly. Replace spark arrestor if screen is damaged.
5. In
stall the new or cleaned/inspected screen with
three screws using a 9/32” wrench or nut driver.
