Lube Oil Maintainer System
Description
The 36 kW, 45 kW, and 60 kW models are equipped with
a lube oil maintainer system. The lube oil maintainer
system is factory-installed and factory-calibrated to the
correct engine-running crankcase oil level. The lube oil
maintainer system keeps engine lubricating oil full by
automatically adding clean oil from oil supply tank as
needed.
NOTE: Oil reservoir is empty when shipped from factory.
Fill with clean engine oil to activate system.
Oil reservoir capacity: 2.5 gal (9.46 L)
See Figure 8-1. The green bar (B) observed through the
viewing lens (A) shows normal oil level operating range
(C) of lube oil maintainer regulator during engine running
operation. When oil level is within green bar, the internal
float holds the inlet valve closed to keep crankcase oil at
current level.
Figure 8-1. Lube Oil Maintainer Regulator
NOTE: Wires connected to viewing lens are not used in
this application and can be disregarded.
As engine uses oil, float drops to open the inlet valve.
Clean oil is drawn through the oil inlet screen (D) and into
crankcase, replenishing engine oil to full mark indicated
on oil dipstick. The float then rises with crankcase oil
level until it reaches a point where inlet valve closes.
When oil level as observed through the viewing lens is
low (E) and below normal operating range green bar, it is
an indication the oil supply tank is low or oil inlet screen is
clogged.
Test operation of the float and switch by pressing the test
button (F).
NOTE: It is normal for oil level to be above normal
operating range green bar when engine is not running.
NOTE: Close oil shutoff valve when changing engine oil
to avoid draining clean oil in the oil supply tank with the
crankcase oil. See Oil Shutoff Valve.
Fill Oil Supply Tank
1. See Figure 8-2. Rotate plastic cover (G) counter-
clockwise and remove from top of enclosure.
Figure 8-2. Access Oil Supply Tank
2. Remove oil fill cap at top of oil supply tank.
3. Add clean engine oil to oil supply tank (2.5 gal [9.5
L] capacity).
4. Install oil fill cap at top of oil supply tank.
5. Install plastic cover at top of enclosure and rotate
clockwise until tight.
Test Functionality
See Figure 8-1. Momentarily press test button (F) to
verify float is operating correctly.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not hold test button down
for a prolonged period of time, or crankcase can be
over filled. Overfilling crankcase can result in engine
damage.
