Never use this machine for other than the intended purpose of trimming, mowing grass, weeds, and other growth as specified in the Owner’s manual. Operation Starting the Unit Operating Tips 1. See Figure 3-3. For cold start push primer (A) three times before starting. This step is not required when starting a warm engine which has already run for a few minutes. • Experiment with different cord weights to determine the best cord weight for different mowing and trimming applications. • Use the smallest diameter cord for the application run at the highest engine speed.

Regular maintenance, replacement, or repair of the emissions control devices and systems may be performed by any repair shop or person of the owner’s choosing. Maintenance and Troubleshooting Replacing Quick-Lock Head 2. Place Mow-Ball® bolt (D) into the hex cavity of Mow-Ball (E). Quick Lock Head Disassembly 3. See Figure 4-3. Align the hole in the anti wrap canister with a hole in the internal housing and insert a Phillip head screwdriver through both holes (F). 1. See Figure 4-1. Maintenance and Troubleshooting 3. See Figure 4-5. For the highest trimmer setting, install the quick lock with adapter (C), followed by both spacers (B) onto the shaft. 2. See Figure 4-7. Remove the four screws (E) securing line plates (F) together with a 3 mm Allen wrench. 4. Place Mow-Ball® bolt into the hex cavity of MowBall (A). E 5. While holding the Mow-Ball bolt head in place turn Mow-Ball counterclockwise to start the bolt onto the shaft. 6. Continue turning the Mow-Ball until tight.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting 8. Secure the cord head assembly with four screws using a 3 mm Allen wrench. 4. See Figure 4-11. Maintenance and Troubleshooting Changing Engine Oil Servicing Spark Plug To ensure the engine runs efficiently, the gap of the spark plug must be correct. To service the spark plug: CAUTION Engine damage. Verify proper type and quantity of engine oil prior to starting engine. Failure to do so could result in engine damage. (000135) WARNING Skin irritation. Avoid prolonged or repeated contact with used motor oil. Used motor oil has been shown to cause skin cancer in laboratory animals.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Symptom Possible Cause Verify throttle lever is in RUN position Verify throttle cable is attached to engine and moves freely. Engine will not start manually. Refer to the engine owner’s manual for engine-specific procedures. Air filter may be dirty. Change as necessary. Replace spark plug(s) if dirty or cracked. If spark plug(s) is oily, leave it out, hold a rag over the plug hole(s) and crank the engine several times to blow out any oil in the cylinders.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting Symptom Possible Cause Verify throttle is in RUN position when engine is warm. Verify throttle cable is attached to engine and moves freely. Inspect air filter intake for clogging. Engine lacks power or is not running smoothly. Refer to the engine owner’s manual for engine-specific procedures. Verify engine blower house, throttle linkage and cooling fins are free of debris. Clean as necessary. Air filter may be dirty. Change as necessary.
