Maintenance and Troubleshooting
IMPORTANT NOTE: Never operate the chipper/shred-
der at less than full rpm.
NOTE: At engine startup, the engine operates under no
load until approximately 1,800 rpm, then the centrifugal
clutch engages and begins driving the rotor.
NOTE: Clutch is permanently lubricated, and does not
require grease or oil. If there is decreased performance
of the clutch, inspect drum, shoes, and springs for wear
or damage. Replace assembly as necessary.
Installing New Clutch Assembly
1. Remove belt guard and belt. See Checking and
Adjusting Belt Tension.
2. See Figure 4-18. Remove supporting hardware (A)
from clutch (B). Slide clutch from crankshaft.

3. Remove key from keyway in engine crankshaft.
Set aside.
4. Clean engine crankshaft and remove any burrs.
Apply anti-seize compound to crankshaft.
5. Install key in keyway of new clutch hub, align key
with slot in engine crankshaft, and slide new clutch
assembly onto shaft.
6. Secure clutch with washer, lock washer, and clutch
bolt.
7. Install drive belt and set drive belt tension and
alignment. See Drive Belt Maintenance.
8. Install belt guard. See Drive Belt Maintenance.
9. Connect spark plug wire.
Battery Care
Always recycle batteries in accordance with local laws
and regulations. Contact your local solid waste collection
site or recycling facility to obtain information on local
recycling processes. For more information on battery

tamper with engine governed speed. Operating
engine too fast or slow increases the risk of injury
or permanent engine damage.
