6. Tighten nuts once wear plate is correctly posi-
tioned.
NOTE: Rotate chipper disk and inspect for any unusual
noises, clicking, or vibrations. Inspect for damage or
loose parts if there is any noise. Repair or replace parts
as needed.
7. Connect negative battery terminal cable and spark
plug wires.
Adjusting Shredder Hammers
NOTE: The shredder hammers have four cutting edges
that may be used before replacement is necessary.
Rotate or reverse the shredder hammers for a fresh cut-
ting edge. If all edges are dull, replace shredder ham-
mers.
1. Remove negative battery terminal cable.
2. Remove belt guard.
3. See Figure 2-5. Loosen 5/16 in (7.9 mm) nut and
rotate housing side access cover plate to expose
access hole (A).

4. Remove shredder hopper by removing four bolts
and locknuts.
5. Remove four 5/16 in (7.9 mm) bolts and remove
top plate.
6. Remove baffle plate and screen.
7. See Figure 4-17. Rotate shredder hammer rod (B)
until the deep grooved end of the groove pin at the
end of the rod is pointing down.

8. Hold the hammer rod in place with vise grips, and
drive out the ground pin with a punch (C).
9. Rotate shredder hammer assembly until rod and
access hole are aligned.
10. Remove rod through access hole and remove
hammers and spacers from rod. Maintain the order
of the shredder hammers and spacers.
11. Reverse each shredder hammer (end to end) using
lower hole in the shredder hammer.
12. Slide rod through access hole and install the shred-
der hammers and spacers in the same order.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Verify shredder hammers and
spacers are installed in the correct order. See Chip-
per/Shredder Rotor Assembly with Hammers for cor-
rect order.
13. Install new groove pin.
14. Repeat steps 4–10 for remaining three hammer
rods.
NOTE: It may be helpful to mark the end of the hammer
rods that have been reworked with a marker or tape.
15. Install top plate, shredder hopper, access cover
plate, belt guard, screen, and baffle plate.
16. Connect negative battery terminal cable and spark
plug wire.
Removing and Replacing the Clutch

down unit, allow to cool, remove keys, and disconnect spark
plug wire(s). Failure to do so could result in death, serious
injury, or equipment damage.
