28 Installation Guidelines For 60 Hz Air-Cooled Generators
Battery Requirements
12 volts, Group 26R-540CCA minimum, or Group
35AGM-650CCA minimum.
Battery Installation
• (Group 26R batteries only): Fill the battery with
the proper electrolyte fluid if necessary.
• Fully charge the battery before installing it.
Before installing and connecting the battery, complete the
following steps:
1. Verify that the generator is OFF.
2. Turn off utility power supply to the transfer switch.
3. Remove the 7.5A fuse from the generator control
panel.
Battery cables were factory connected at the generator.
See Figure 6-2. Connect cables to battery posts as
follows:
4. Connect the red battery cable (A: from starter
contactor) to the battery post indicated by a
positive: POS or (+). Torque to 70 in-lbs (8 Nm).
5. Connect the black battery cable (B: from frame
ground) to the battery post indicated by a negative:
NEG, or (-). Torque to 70 in-lbs (8 Nm).
6. Install the red battery post cover (shipped with
loose parts).
NOTE: Dielectric grease should be used on battery
posts to aid in the prevention of corrosion.
NOTE: Damage will result if battery connections are
made in reverse.

NOTE: In areas where temperatures fall below 0°F
(-18°C), it is recommended that a pad type battery
warmer be installed to aid in cold climate starting. This is
available as part of a cold weather kit through an
Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD).
A battery warmer is not necessary for AGM-style
batteries.
