Use of safety switches with portable generators
Safety switches can be used with portable generators, however if wiring is not done correctly, or the safety switch is not
the suitable type, it may not provide protection. To ensure your family is protected, make sure the installation is in
accordance with the Australian Wiring Rules and with relevant safety standards.
Consult a licensed Electrical Contractor for further information
Make sure extension cords are adequately sized to handle the electricity. If you’re not certain, check with a licensed
electrician. Finally, the generator should always be placed outside in a well-ventilated area and you should never refuel
it when the engine is hot. Let it cool for at least 10 minutes to minimize the danger of fire.
