STEP 2 - Install the Handlebar
a. When the bike is shipped, the stem is attached inwardly
facing towards the back of the bike to prevent damage during
shipment. It needs to be reversed so the handlebars can be
properly attached. Place fork between your feet for stability,
then use the hex key to loosen the stem bolts that are attached
to the head tube.
b. Rotate the stem so it is 90 degrees perpendicular to the fork and
facing towards the front of the bike. Retighten the stem’s bolts to
secure it to the head tube. Do not over tighten!
c. Completely remove the stem’s handlebar clamp bolts.
d. Center the handlebar in the stem. Make sure the cables are
not pinched and the left and right grips are on the correct side.
Replace the clamp faceplate and hand tighten two bolts at
opposite corners. Keeping the handlebar centered, reattach the
clamp bolts.
e. Using the hex key, partially tighten all four bolts to hold the
handlebar at the desired angle. As the clamp tightens around
the handlebar, make sure the gap between the clamp and
body stem are parallel (see diagram below), then finish
tightening all four bolts.
Make sure there is equal distance
between handlebar clamp and body
stem as noted in this diagram
