General Information | Read This Before Your First Ride SAFE OPERATING TIPS • Even if you are an experienced bike rider, all riders should read and understand this manual before using an electric bike. For your safety and to avoid serious injury or death, please closely review the following safety tips for safe operation of your GEN3 Electric Bike. • Always wear an approved helmet whenever riding this product. Approved helmets in the USA must meet the US Consumer Product Safety Commission standard.
• Any aftermarket changes or modifications to your bike could void the warranty and create an unsafe riding experience. • Ride at night only if necessary. Wear reflective clothing; if posssible, only bike down roads with ample street lighting. Ensure you have reflectors and lights as required by your regional vehicle laws. • Take extra precaution when riding in wet conditions. Decrease speeds and prepare for increased braking distance. Pedals and grips will be slippery in wet conditions.
BIKE ASSEMBLY | PROFESSIONAL HELP OR DO-IT-YOURSELF Correct assembly and fit are essential elements of ensuring your electric bike’s safety and proper performance and we recommend seeking professional help from a reputable, certified bike mechanic to verify your bike is set up correctly. While you may have the skills, experience, and tools to assemble the bike before your first ride, GEN3 recommends having a certified bike mechanic double check your work.
SAFETY | PRE-RIDE CHECK LIST Before every ride, please inspect the bike for the following: SAFETY CHECK STEPS INVOLVED Brakes • • • • • Confirm front and rear brakes work properly. Check brake pads and rotors for wear and confirm they are not overworn. Confirm brake pads are correctly positioned in relation to the rotors. Confirm brake levers are lubricated and tightly secured to the handlebar. Test that the brake levers are firm and that the brake-motor cutoff is working.
PRE-RIDE CHECK LIST (continued) SAFETY CHECK Motor, Chain Battery & Electrical Cables STEPS INVOLVED • • • • • Confirm motor is spinning smoothly and bearings are in good working order. Confirm all power cables running to motor are secured and undamaged. Make sure the motor axle bolts are secured. Confirm the chain is clean, oiled, and runs smoothly. Pay special attention if you live in a coastal or dusty climate the ensure the chain is oiled and clean.
BRAKES Make sure the brakes are working with proper stopping power. The levers should stop short of touching the handlebar. Riding with improperly adjusted or worn brakes is dangerous and can result in injury or death. Keep brake surfaces clean and free from oil or lubricants. Replace worn brakes with authorized replacements.
Assembly LIST OF LOOSE PARTS & CONTENTS Contained in the bike parts box you will need: • • • • • Assembled bike frame with rear tire Front Tire Handlebars Seat & Seat Post Parts Box(es) including: ° Left & Right Pedals ° Lights ° Battery Charger ° Keys (2) ° Front Wheel Quick Release ° Tool Bag PLEASE NOTE: This section covers assembly for all GEN3 Bikes including: The Flex, The OutCross, The Stride, and The Groove.
STEP 2 - Install the Handlebar “THE GROOVE” BIKE OWNERS SKIP TO PAGE 11 a. When the bike is shipped, the stem is attached inwardly facing towards the back of the bike to prevent damage during shipment. It needs to be reversed so the handlebars can be properly attached. Place fork between your feet for stability, then use the hex key to loosen the stem bolts that are attached to the head tube. b. Rotate the stem so it is 90 degrees perpendicular to the fork and facing towards the front of the bike.
“THE GROOVE” SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS (NOTE: ALL OTHER BIKE MODEL OWNERS SKIP THIS SECTION) “THE GROOVE” - Install the Handlebar a b c d a. Ensure the handlebar extension is collapsed and sitting to the right side of the bike. Note: Your bike arrives with the handle bar disengaged. b. Insert the handlebar stem into the extension tube. c. Lift the handlebar up to the full lock position. d. Press locking latch (See 1) and then turn the security latch (See 2) so the locking latch cannot disengage.
STEP 3 - Install the Seat Post a. Before installing the seat post, grease should be applied to the bottom 5 inches (12 cm) of the seatpost bar in a thin layer to prevent corrosion and binding of metals. b. Loosen the quick release, the place the greased seat post in the frame. c. Place the seat at the desired height and align the front of seat with the frame. NOTE: Do not exceed maximum seat height line indicated on the seat post. d.
4a 4b 4c 4d STEP 4 - Install Front Wheel on Fork (continued) f. Mount the wheel to the fork carefully guiding the brake pads onto the rotor. The axle should fit into the fork snugly. g. Tighten the quick release bolt until considerable force is needed to close the quick release lever. The opposite bolt cover needs to be held in place as you twist the quick release lever. h. The lever should tighten down to the fork without going past.
“THE GROOVE” & “THE STRIDE” SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS (NOTE: ALL OTHER BIKE MODEL OWNERS SKIP THIS SECTION) “The Groove” & “The Stride” Install Fender b d Bike models “The Groove” and “The Stride” require front fender installation. The fender is attached at three points: to the mounting bracket at the top of the front fork where the light is attached, and to the right and left mounting bolts on the lower fork. a. Unscrew the bolt at the center of the top of the fork.
STEP 5 - Install the Pedals a. Determine which pedal is LEFT and which is RIGHT by looking at the sticker placed on the pedal. b. Lightly grease the threads. This will prevent metals from binding over time. c. Thread the RIGHT pedal by hand onto the chain-side crank arm in a clockwise direction. d. Use an open wrench to tighten the pedal securely. e. Repeat steps C and D with the LEFT pedal. The threads will be reversed and should be tightened in a counterclockwise direction.
Battery BATTERY TIPS Note - Your electric bike comes with two copies of the battery key. Keep one key in a safe place for repairs, maintenance, and emergencies, and to bring with you to the bike shop. • Remove the battery by turning the key to the UNLOCK position. The battery is then released from the bike frame housing. • To return the battery, insert back into the frame housing until it clicks into place. You must turn the key to the LOCK position to secure the battery.
CHARGING TIPS (continued) • Ensure the prongs aren’t bent, and if the connection point ever becomes contaminated with grit, mud, or snow, clean it before connecting your battery. • Never leave your bike in the trunk of a hot car with the battery attached. Remove the battery and take it with you instead. BATTERY POWER & OPERATION • When the battery level shows one segment blinking on the LCD display, the motor will stop working.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS WARNING - When using this product, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following: a) Read all the instructions before using the product. b) To reduce the risk of injury, close supervision is necessary when the product is used near children. c) Do not put fingers or hands into the product. d) Do not use this product if the flexible power cord or output cable is frayed, has broken insulation, or any other signs of damage.
How to Use the Electric Bike Interface BUTTON FUNCTION Throughout this section, when in text format, we’ll show the interface buttons as: is replaced by text MODE [ M ] button. is replaced by the text UP [ + ] button. is replaced by text DOWN [ - ] button. THUMB THROTTLE Activates the motor without pedaling regardless of pedal assist level. Maximum speed is 20 mph (32 kph) FUNCTION DESCRIPTION The bike interface provides you with a variety of function modes, to meet your riding needs.
INTERFACE DISPLAY OPERATIONS OPERATION DIRECTIONS Turn off the bike • Press & hold MODE [ M ] until power disengages. Note: Display will automatically shut down when battery is below 1 bar or bike is idle for 10 minutes. Toggle between: Real-time Speed Max Speed Average Speed • Press MODE [ M ] and DOWN [ - ] at same time for 2 seconds to change display speed indicator between Average Speed, Max Speed and Real-Time Speed. Note: Display defaults to “Real-time Speed” at startup.
INTERFACE DISPLAY OPERATIONS 21 (continued) OPERATION DIRECTIONS Error Code • When the electric bike electronic control system fails, the display will automatically indicate the error code and a number ranging from 21 -26. • For the definition of detailed error codes, please see Troubleshooting the Electronics chart on Page 28. Reset Trip Distance • Enter “General Settings” by pressing UP [ + ] and DOWN [ - ] button at same time for over 2 seconds.
INTERFACE DISPLAY OPERATIONS (continued) OPERATION DIRECTIONS Enable Password Protection • Enter “General Settings” by pressing UP [ + ] and DOWN [ - ] button at same time for over 2 seconds. • Press MODE [ M ] and UP [ + ] button for over 2 seconds until [ P2 ] appears in middle of screen. Note: The default password of the display is 1234. You can change your password later.
Maintenance In order to keep your GEN3 Electric Bike in optimal condition and to make your riding experience as pleasant as possible, we strongly recommend that you follow a regular inspection and maintenance schedule. Please note that wear and tear, and the need for service will vary based on your use. Please read and understand the following recommendations in our Bike Care Basics & Best Practices, Safety | Pre-Ride Checklist, and Recommended Ongoing Service sections of this manual.
RECOMMENDED ONGOING SERVICE GEN3 recommends regular inspections, and the following maintenance schedule: TIMING Weekly 100-200 miles / 160-321 km Monthly INSPECT THE FOLLOWING • • 250-750 miles / • 402-1207 km • • • Every 6 Months 750-1250 miles / 1207-2011 km Annually (Regardless of distance) SERVICE • Inspect fasteners for proper torque. • Clean frame with damp cloth and mild soap as • Inspect drivetrain for proper alignment and function (including the needed.
Battery and Range BATTERY CAPACITY At the top left on the LCD display a battery icon meter can be found. The bike controller estimates the charge left in the bike’s battery. As the battery depletes, sections will drop according to approximately how much charge in the battery has been used. Note: The energy meter is an estimate. The battery icon updates periodically based on the current voltage of the battery. It is not a direct indication of remaining battery level capacity.

Damage to your bike, property, and/or cargo, and serious injury or death can result if these limits are not heeded.

PAY ATTENTION TO NORMAL WEAR Components of GEN3 bikes are subject to higher wear than components of bikes without power assistance. Due to traveling at higher speeds, and the additional weight of an electric bike, wear and tear on an electric bike is increased over a regular bike. This level of higher wear is not a defect in the product and is not subject to warranty. The typical components affected are the tires, brake pads and rotors, suspension forks, wheels, spokes, and battery.
General Rules FOR YOUR SAFETY, FOLLOW THESE BEST PRACTICES • Obey all road and trail laws. • Familiarize yourself with local electric bike regulations (sidewalks, et al) It is the user’s responsibility to understand local ordinance. • Be familiar with electric bikes and the difference between pedal assist and throttle. • Pay attention! • Wear a helmet. • Use appropriate hand signals. • Do not use pedal assist around corners to avoid accidentally hitting the ground with a pedal and causing injury..

CREDIT CARD CHARGEBACKS If any Product purchase becomes subject to a credit card chargeback in any amount, and you are still in possession of the Product, then this Limited Warranty shall be invalidated until the credit card chargeback has been resolved. CLAIMS PROCESS GEN3 WILL NOT REPLACE ANY COVERED COMPONENT UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY WITHOUT FIRST SEEING PHOTOS OR VIDEO OF THE DAMAGED COVERED COMPONENT.
