802.11 ( som et im es called "Wi- Fi") is a set of protocols t hat are widely
used for sm all Local Area Networks. Anot her prot ocol called Bluetooth
allows devices to com m unicate wirelessly, but it is only useful for very
short ranges, and generally not used for hom e net working. Bluet oot h
can be useful for networking personal devices in a sm all area, oft en
called a Personal Area Network ( PAN) .
802.11 act ually encom passes several different protocols. The t railing
