TheanaloginputsarecoupledtotheADCs
bymeansofbaluns,providingacharacter-
isticinputimpedanceof50ohms.
Thecombinationofhighperformance
ADCandFPGAresourcesallowsVHFand
UHFsignalstobedigitizedandprocessed
directlyontheXMCmodule.Algorithms
suchasdigitaldownconversion,FFT,and
filteringcanbedevelopedtoexecuteinthe
Virtex4FPGA,usingtheincludedHardware
DevelopmentKit(HDK).Themoduleisavail-
ableinfivelevelsofruggedization,three
forair-cooledenvironmentsandtwofor

logiccore,designedtoprovideminimum
occupancyoftheFPGAandtoprovidea

anddatabufferingtothehigh-speedserial
outputsandPCIBus.Functionssuchas
timestamping,digitaldown-conversion,
filteringandFastFourierTransform

dataratesinexcessof400MBytes/s,while
thePn4userI/Oportallowstheuserto
definedirectpointtopointconnectionsto
theFPGA,eliminatinginterruptlatencies.
Thelattertwointerfacesmaybeusedfor
applicationsinwhichtheXMCinterface
cannotbeused.
