Introduction Your Digital Answering System is designed to give you flexibility in use and high quality performance. To get the most from your new answering system, we suggest that you take a few minutes right now to read through this instruction manual. CAUTION: When using telephone equipment, there are basic safety instructions that should always be followed. Refer to the IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS provided with this product and save them for future reference.
Important Installation Information • Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. • Never touch non-insulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface. • Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines. • Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations. 1. Important Instructions for Moving the Answering System To move the answering system to a different location in the house, follow these instructions: 1. Disconnect the phone line or any phones you may have connected to the answering system. 2. Unplug the power supply from the electrical outlet. 3. Move the answering system and phone line to the desired location. 4. Plug the power supply into an electrical outlet. 5. The MESSAGE counter flashes if there is a new message. 6. Connect all necessary phone lines.
Information About the Greeting 1. To review the greeting, press and release GREETING. The unit plays back your greeting automatically. 2. To return to the answerer’s default greeting after you’ve recorded one, press GREETING and release it when you hear the tone, or press and hold DELETE when the greeting is playing. NOTE: Your recording time should not be less than two seconds. Otherwise the unit will return to the default greeting.
Setting the Time/Day This setting allows you to set the current time and day for the Time/Day stamp attached to each message. When you have completed setting the Language, the unit will enter the TIME/DAY menu.
Day 1. The answering system announces, “(the current day setting) To set day, press next... press set to continue.” 2. To change the day, press and release the NEXT or PREVIOUS button, and the answering system announces a day, such as “Sunday, Monday” or “Sunday, Saturday.” 3. After choosing a day, press and release the STOP/SET button to store the day. The answering system enters the Rings to Answer menu.
Setting The Incoming Message Time This setting allows you to select the length of the incoming message. This menu comes when you have finished setting the Rings to Answer. 1. The answering system announces “Message Time (current message length) minutes. To set message time, press next, press set to continue.” 2. To change the message length, press and release the NEXT or PREVIOUS button and the answering system announces a number, such as “1,2,3,4.” 3.
6. The answering system automatically advances to the second number and announces “Security Code (current 3 number). To set security code, press NEXT then press SET to continue.” To change the second and third numbers, repeat steps 4 and 5. After the third number is stored, the answering system announces all the stored settings and exits the setup menu. Reviewing the Settings This function allows you to review the current time, rings to answer, message time and security code.
More Than 10 Messages When you have both old and new messages, the message counter continuously flashes the total number of messages followed by a dash, such as 2, 8, -. Message Counter Display In addition to message information, the message counter also displays information about the digital answering system’s status. • When memory is full, an “F “ flashes in the message counter display. • When you’re recording a greeting, “o” shows in the message counter display.
• To stop playback, press and release the STOP/SET button. • To restart playback of a current message, press and hold the PREVIOUS button until the message restarts from the beginning. • To go back to the beginning of a previous message, press and release the PREVIOUS button within one second. • To fast forward through a message, press and hold the NEXT button. • To skip to the beginning of the next message, press and release the NEXT button.
Leaving a Memo Press and hold the PLAY/MEMO button. Record your message after the announcement and the beep are heard. Release the PLAY/MEMO button when you’re finished talking. The answering system treats the memo as a message, and the MESSAGE counter flashes. Screening Calls (Auto Disconnect Feature) When a call comes in the answering system rings the number of set times, plays the greeting, and records the incoming call. You may screen incoming calls by listening as the caller leaves a message.
To Access Your Answering System 1. Call your telephone number. 2. After you hear the beep that follows the greeting, enter your 3-digit security code. To bypass the greeting, you can enter your 3-digit security code any time while the greeting is playing. 3. The answering system beeps to confirm you have accessed the remote functions and begins playing the remote functions menu. 4. Select the function you want to use and press that number on the phone’s keypad you are using. 5.
General Product Care To keep your answering system working and looking good, follow these guidelines: • Avoid putting it near heating appliances and devices that generate electrical noise (for example, motors or fluorescent lamps). • DO NOT expose to direct sunlight or moisture. • Avoid dropping answering system and/or other rough treatment. • Clean with a soft cloth. • Never use a strong cleaning agent or abrasive powder because this will damage the finish.
Won’t respond to remote commands • You must use touch-tone phone. • You must enter the correct security code. • Did the unit hang up? If you take no action for a period of time, it automatically hangs up. Answering system doesn’t work • Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet and from the back of the unit. Then plug the power adapter cord back into the back of the answering system and the electrical outlet. This is a complete reset. Can’t hear messages • Adjust the volume control.
Warranty Assistance If trouble is experienced with this equipment, for warranty information, please contact customer service at 1-800-448-0329. If the equipment is causing harm to the telephone network, the telephone company may require that you disconnect the equipment until the problem is resolved. Any unauthorized repairs, changes or modifications not expressly approved by Thomson Inc. could void the user’s authority to operate this product.
Limited Warranty What your warranty covers: • Defects in materials or workmanship. For how long after your purchase: • One year, from date of purchase. (The warranty period for rental units begins with the first rental or 45 days from date of shipment to the rental firm, whichever comes first.) What we will do: • Provide you with a new or, at our option, a refurbished unit. The exchange unit is under warranty for the remainder of the original product’s warranty period.
• Products which have been modified or incorporated into other products. • Products purchased or serviced outside the USA. • Acts of nature, such as but not limited to lightning damage. Instrucciones Importantes para Mover el Sistema Contestador To move the answering system to a different location in the house, follow these instructions: 1.
