Starting a Local
Console Session
(Recommended for
first-time Users)
1. Connect a serial communications cable between the PC and the
unit’s
COM 1 port. If necessary, a cable may be constructed for this
purpose as shown in Figure 3-5.

2. Launch a terminal emulation program such as HyperTerminal and
congure the program with the following settings:
19,200 bps data rate
•8 data bits, no parity
One stop bit, and no flow-control
Use ANSI or VT100 emulation.
TIP: The HyperTerminal communications program can be accessed on
most PCs by selecting this menu sequence:
Start>>Programs>>Accesso-
ries>>Communications>>HyperTerminal
.
NOTE: The exact parameters given above must be used for console
terminal communication. Improper settings are a common
cause of difficulty.
NOTE: If the unit is powered-up or rebooted while connected to a
terminal, you will see a series of pages of text information
relating to the booting of the unit’s microcomputer. Wait for
the log-in screen before proceeding.
3. Press the key to receive the login: prompt.
