Operation Manual
Chapter 1: Guide to Safe On-and-Off Road Operation 2
Condition 3
A bicycle made to ride on Conditions 1 and 2, plus
rough trails, small obstacles, and smooth technical
areas, and also areas where tires momentarily are
not on the ground; NOT for jumps.
Any mountain bike that does not have rear
suspension is Condition 3. Any mountain
bike with short-travel rear suspension is also
Condition 3:
• “Standard,” “race,” or “cross-country” mountain
bike with wide, knobby 26” or 29” tires
• Short-travel rear suspension (3”/75 mm or less)
• Weight limit of rider: 300 lbs (136 kg)
Condition 4
A bicycle made to ride on Conditions 1, 2, and
3; plus rough technical areas, obstacles of
moderate height, and small jumps:
• “Heavy-duty,” “trail,” or “all-mountain”
mountain bike with wide, knobby 26” or 29”
tires
• Medium-travel rear suspension (4”/100 mm
or more)
• Weight limit of rider: 300 lbs (136 kg)
Condition 5
A bicycle made to jump, ride at high speeds,
ride aggressively on rougher surfaces, or
complete jumps on flat surfaces.
This type of use is very dangerous and puts
large forces on a bicycle. Large forces can apply
dangerous stress to a frame, fork, or the parts.
If you ride in Condition 5 terrain, you should
practice safety precautions such as more
frequent bicycle inspections and more frequent
replacement of equipment. You should also
wear comprehensive safety equipment such as
a full-face helmet, pads, and body armor.
• “Freeride” or “jumping” bicycle with heavy-
duty frames, forks, and components
• Long-travel rear suspension (7”/178 mm or
more)
• Weight limit of rider: 300 lbs (136 kg)
WARNING: If your use of a bicycle
applies more stress than the Use
Condition for which it is intended, the
bicycle or its parts can have damage
or break. A bicycle that has damage
could decrease your control and cause
you to fall. Do not ride in Use
Conditions that apply more stress
than the limits of the bicycle. If you
are not sure of the limits of the
bicycle, speak to your dealer.
