81CHAPTER THREE Inspection, Adjustment & Lubrication
This suspension system works following the same princi-
ples as the Sugar suspension frame on the previous
page. Its inspection, maintenance, and lubrication are
the same, so refer to that page. The difference is that the
Sugar+ offers additional adjustment, explained below.
Adjustment
Read and follow the adjustment information on
the previous page for the Sugar full suspension
bike. This information is in addition to the Sugar
information, and explains how to change the
amount of travel, or wheel movement, available to
the suspension. Changing the amount of travel also
changes the feel of the suspension, as well as the
bike geometry.
To change the Sugar+ to long-travel mode
1. Follow the instructions on the previous page to adjust your
bike with the Sybil link in the standard-travel mode with the
shock in the upper position (Figure 3.12.2).
2. Loosen the nut on the rear shock mount bolt several turns.
3. Move the shock to the lower, long-travel mounting holes of
the Sybil link.
4. Re-install the shock mount bolt and tighten the nut as
shown in Inspection on the previous page.
5. Re-adjust the suspension fork to match the rear suspension.
As with any suspension component, the recommendations are
for an initial starting point. For your ideal settings, try slight
variations in pressure and damping until you find a setting
that works best for you in your terrain and riding style.
To change the Sugar+ to short-travel mode
1. Reverse the instructions To change the Sugar+ to long-travel
mode.
Always test suspension adjustments and become familiar
with how the bike handles and performs before riding fast or
in difficult terrain. Learn the function and performance of the
suspension adjustments by riding at slower speeds on easy
terrain.
