Harmo-
nium
e harmonium is a free-standing keyboard
instrument. Sound is produced by air supplied
by foot- or hand-operated bellows being blown
through sets of free reeds. Notes are selected by
playing the white and black keys on the front of
the instrument. Some models feature a stop that
creates a form of vibrato. A popular example of
the use of a harmonium can be found in Beatles
songs such as “We Can Work It Out.

free-reed mouth organ from ailand. e in-
strument consists of a group of pipes connected
with a small, hollowed-out hardwood reservoir
into which air is blown. e Khaen is tuned to
a pentatonic scale. It is also called a Pi Joom in
Northern ailand.
