8.9 POSITION REPORTING
NOTE

to make full use of the Position Reporting
feature.
ThePositionReportingfeatureallowsthesystemtosendpositionreportinginformationtoaprovider,suchas
FlightAware.com.
The position reports can be activated or deactivated by the pilot. While active, the position reports are
transmittedovertheIridiumShortBurstDatalinkperiodicallyatapilotspeciedintervalorbypressingtheSEND
RPTSoftkey.Theminimumautomatictransmissionperiodbetweenreportsistwominuteswithmorefrequent
transmissionspossibleviamanuallysendingreportswiththeSEND RPTSoftkey.Duringvoicecommunications
anddatatransferstheIridiumdatalinkisoccupiedandpositionreportswillnotbesent.Duringthisperiodthe
reportswillbufferandbesentasapackageassoonasthelinkisavailable.Thepositionreportsarereceivedby
GarminConnextandforwardedtoselectighttrackingprovider(s).
Toreduceexcessusage,positionreportsareonlytransmittedwhiletheaircraftisintheair.
The following are position reports contents:
•TailNumber
•Time
•Latitude/Longitude
•GroundSpeed
•GroundTrack
•Heading
•BarometricAltitude
•TrueAirspeed
•OutsideAirTemperature
•Destination
•EstimatedTimeEnroute(ETE)
•AirborneStatus
TheAirborneStatuseldistheindicationthattheaircraftisonthegroundorintheairatthetimetheposition
reportwasgenerated.TheavionicsgenerateapositionreportwhentheAirborneStatuseldchangesstate.
•PassengerOnboard
PassengerOnboardindicatespassengersareontheaircraftatthetimethepositionreportwasgenerated.A
positionreportisgeneratedwhenthePassengerOnboardeldchangesstate.
