•At30nmfromthedepartureairporttheenroute phase of flight is automatically entered and CDI scaling
changesto2.0nmoveradistanceof1.0nm,exceptunderthefollowingconditions:
- Whennavigatingwithanactivedepartureprocedure,theightphaseandCDIscaledoesnotchange
untiltheaircraftarrivesatthelastdeparturewaypoint(ifmorethan30nmfromthedepartureairport)or
the leg after the last departure waypoint has been activated or a direct-to waypoint is activated.
•Ifaftercompletingthedepartureprocedurethenearestairportismorethan200nmawayfromtheaircraft
and the approach procedure has not yet commenced, the CDI is scaled for oceanicight(2.0nm).
•Within31nmofthedestinationairport(terminalarea),theCDIscalegraduallyrampsdownfrom2.0nm
to1.0nmoveradistanceof1.0nm,exceptunderthefollowingconditions:
- Uponreachingtherstwaypointofanarrivalroutethatismorethan31nmfromthedestinationairport,
theightphasechangestoterminalandtheCDIscalebeginstotransitiondownfrom2.0nmto1.0nm
overadistanceof1.0nm.
•Duringapproach,theCDIscalerampsdownevenfurther(seeFigures2-28and2-29).Thistransition
normallyoccurswithin2.0nmofthenal approachx(FAF).The CDIswitchestoapproachscaling
automatically once the approach procedure is activated or if Vector-to-Final (VTF) is selected.
- IftheactivewaypointistheFAF,thegroundtrackandthebearingtotheFAFmustbewithin45°ofthe
final approach segment course.
- If the active waypoint is part of the missed approach procedure, the active leg and preceding missed
approach legs must be aligned with the final approach segment course and the aircraft must not have
passed the turn initiation point.
