FLIGHT PATH MARKER
TheFlightPathMarker(FPM),alsoknownasaVelocityVector,isdisplayedonthePFDatgroundspeeds
above30knots.TheFPMdepictstheapproximateprojectedpathoftheaircraftaccountingforwindspeed
anddirectionrelativetothethree-dimensionalterraindisplay.
TheFPMisalwaysavailablewhentheSyntheticTerrainfeatureisinoperation.TheFPMrepresentsthe
directionoftheightpathasitrelatestotheterrainandobstaclesonthedisplay,whiletheairplanesymbol
represents the aircraft heading.
TheFPMworksinconjunctionwiththePathwaysfeaturetoassistthepilotinmaintainingdesiredaltitudes
anddirectionwhennavigatingaightplan.WhenoncourseandaltitudetheFPMisalignedinsidethe
pathwayboxesasshown(Figure8-7).
TheFPMmayalsobeusedtoidentifyapossibleconictwiththeaircraftightpathanddistantterrainor
obstacles.Displayedterrainorobstaclesintheaircraft’sightpathextendingabovetheFPMcouldindicate
apotentialconict,evenbeforeanalertisissuedbyTAWS.However,decisionsregardingterrainand/or
obstacleavoidanceshouldnotbemadeusingonlytheFPM.

ZERO PITCH LINE
TheZeroPitchLineisdrawncompletelyacrossthedisplayandrepresentsthehorizonwhentheterrain
horizon is difcult to distinguish from other terrain being displayed. It may not align with the terrain
horizon,particularlywhentheterrainismountainousorwhentheaircraftisownathighaltitudes.
