AUTOMATIC FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM
FLIGHT DIRECTOR MODES
Flight directormodes arenormally selectedindependentlyfor the pitchand rollaxes. Unlessotherwise
specied,allmodekeysarealternateaction(i.e.,presson,pressoff).Intheabsenceofspecicmodeselection,
the ight director reverts to the default pitch and/or roll modes. Mode keys on the AFCS controller are
accompanied by annunciator lights (Figure 7-1) which are illuminated when their respective modes are armed
or active.
ArmedmodesareannunciatedinwhiteandactiveingreenintheAFCSStatusBox.Undernormaloperation,
when the FD Keyispressed, the ightdirector revertsto the default mode(s)forthe axis(es). Automatic
transition from armed to active mode is indicated by the white armed mode annunciation moving to the green
active mode field and flashing for 10 seconds.
If the information required to compute a ight director mode becomes invalid or unavailable, the ight
directorautomatically revertsto thedefaultmode forthataxis. Aashing yellowmodeannunciation and
annunciatorlightindicatelossofsensor(ADC)ornavigationdata(VOR,LOC,GPS,VNV,SBAS)requiredto
computecommands.Whensuchalossoccurs,thesystemautomaticallybeginstorollthewingslevel(enters
RollHoldMode)ormaintainthepitchangle(entersPitchHoldMode),dependingontheaffectedaxis.The
ashingannunciationstopswhentheaffectedmodekeyispressedoranothermodefortheaxisisselected.If
after 10 seconds no action is taken, the flashing annunciation stops.

The flight director is automatically disabled if the attitude information required to compute the default flight
director modes becomes invalid or unavailable.
SWITCHING FLIGHT DIRECTORS
TheGFC700intheBeechcraftC90A/GThastwoightdirectors,eachoperatingwithinanIAU.Theautopilot
follows the selected flight director only, indicated by an arrow pointing toward either the pilot or copilot side, in
thecenteroftheAFCSStatusBox.FlightdirectorsmaybeswitchedbypressingtheXFR Key. The annunciator
light arrow for the selected flight director is also illuminated beside the XFRKey.Whentheightdirectorsare
switched, the vertical and lateral modes revert to default.
