AUTOMATIC FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM
FLIGHT DIRECTOR MODES
Flight directormodes arenormally selectedindependentlyfor the pitchand rollaxes. Unlessotherwise
specied,allmodekeysarealternateaction(i.e.,presson,pressoff).Intheabsenceofspecicmodeselection,
the ight director reverts to the default pitch and/or roll modes. Mode keys on the AFCS controller are
accompanied by annunciator lights (Figure 7-1) which are illuminated when their respective modes are armed
or active.
ArmedmodesareannunciatedinwhiteandactiveingreenintheAFCSStatusBox.Undernormaloperation,
when the FD Keyispressed, the ightdirector revertsto the default mode(s)forthe axis(es). Automatic
transition from armed to active mode is indicated by the white armed mode annunciation moving to the green
active mode field and flashing for 10 seconds.
If the information required to compute a ight director mode becomes invalid or unavailable, the ight
directorautomatically revertsto thedefaultmode forthataxis. Aashing yellowmodeannunciation and
annunciatorlightindicatelossofsensor(ADC)ornavigationdata(VOR,LOC,GPS,VNV,SBAS)requiredto
computecommands.Whensuchalossoccurs,thesystemautomaticallybeginstorollthewingslevel(enters
RollHoldMode)ormaintainthepitchangle(entersPitchHoldMode),dependingontheaffectedaxis.The
ashingannunciationstopswhentheaffectedmodekeyispressedoranothermodefortheaxisisselected.If
after 10 seconds no action is taken, the flashing annunciation stops.

The flight director is automatically disabled if the attitude information required to compute the default flight
director modes becomes invalid or unavailable.
SWITCHING FLIGHT DIRECTORS
TheGFC700intheBeechcraftC90A/GThastwoightdirectors,eachoperatingwithinanIAU.Theautopilot
follows the selected flight director only, indicated by an arrow pointing toward either the pilot or copilot side, in
thecenteroftheAFCSStatusBox.FlightdirectorsmaybeswitchedbypressingtheXFR Key. The annunciator
light arrow for the selected flight director is also illuminated beside the XFRKey.Whentheightdirectorsare
switched, the vertical and lateral modes revert to default.
