PDAandFLTAauralandvisualalertscanbemanuallyinhibited.Discretionshouldbeusedwheninhibiting
TAWS-B and the system should be enabled when appropriate. When TAWS-B is inhibited, the alert
annunciation‘TAWSINH’isshownonthePFDandMFD(Figure6-91).

Inhibiting/enabling TAWS-B alerting:
1) Select the TAWS-B Page.
2) Select the INHIBIT Softkey to inhibit or enable TAWS-B (choice dependent on current state).
Or:
a) Press the MENU Key.
b) Select ‘Inhibit TAWS’ or ‘Enable TAWS’ (choice dependent on current state) and press the ENT Key.
IfTAWS-BalertsareinhibitedwhentheFinalApproachFixistheactivewaypointinaGPSSBASapproach,
a‘LOWALT’annunciationmayappearonthePFDnexttotheAltimeterifthecurrentaircraftaltitudeisat
least164feetbelowtheprescribedaltitudeattheFinalApproachFix.SeetheFlightInstrumentsSectionfor
details.
FIVE-HUNDRED AURAL ALERT
Thepurposeoftheauralalertmessage“Five-hundred” is to provide an advisory alert of when the aircraft
descendstowithin500feetabovetheterrainorrunwaythreshold.Whentheaircraftiswithin5nmofan
airport, the “Five Hundred”auralalertisbasedonthenearestrunwaythresholdelevation.Whentheaircraft
ismorethan5nmofthenearestairport,the“Five Hundred” aural alert is based on the height above terrain,
asdeterminedby theradaraltimeter(if installed),orbycomparing theaircraft’sGPS-GSLaltitude tothe
terrain database.
Therearenodisplayannunciationsorpop-upalertsthataccompanythe“Five Hundred” aural alert.
NEGATIVE CLIMB RATE AFTER TAKEOFF ALERT (NCR)
TheNegative Climb Rate (NCR) After Takeoffalert(alsoreferredtoas“AltitudeLossAfterTakeoff”)
providesalertswhenthesystemdeterminestheaircraftislosingaltitude(closinguponterrain)aftertakeoff.
Theauralmessage“Don’tSink”isgivenforNCRalerts,accompaniedbyanannunciationandapop-upterrain
alertonthedisplay.NCRalertingisonlyactivewhendepartingfromanairportandwhenthefollowing
conditions are met:
•Heightabovetheterrainislessthan700feet
•Distancefromthedepartureairportis5nmorless
•Headingchangefromthedepartureheadingislessthan110degrees
NCRalertscanbetriggeredbyeitheraltitudeloss(Figure6-92)orsinkrate(6-93).
