8.4 WEATHER MAP PAGE
The G1000 provides a display interface for the
L-3 Stormscope® WX-500 Series II Weather Mapping
Sensor. The WX-500 is a passive weather avoidance
system that detects electrical discharges associated with
thunderstorms within a 200 nm radius of the aircraft.
The Stormscope measures relative bearing and distance
of thunderstorm related electrical activity and displays the
information on the Weather Map Page.
NOTE: Refer to the WX-500 User’s Guide for a
detailed description of the Stormscope.
The Weather Map Page displays the following
information:
Map showing surrounding lightning strikes (in
strike or cell mode), current aircraft location, and
range marking rings, in 360° mode or 120° mode.
Current lightning mode.
Current strike rate.
Wind vector.
Heading direction.
Current weather data status, or none if no
problems with weather data are detected
Map orientation.
North arrow indicator, when in “track-up” mode.
Active Flight Plan or Direct-to Navigation.
