• Blind Research: Cannot Set Precise Research Goals. You select broad cat-
egories for your researchers to concentrate their efforts, based on the prior-
ities you set between Explore, Discover, Build and Conquer.
• Intense Rivalry: Opponents More Aggressive. The other factions are much
more willing to fight (and more likely to gang up on you).
• No Unity Survey: World Map Not Visible. You know nothing of the world
other than squares you have actually explored and their immediate vicinity.
• No Unity Scattering: Supply Pods Only at Landing Sites. There are some
Unity pods near your first base, but nowhere else.
• Bell Curve: No Random Events. Most random events are disabled.
• Time Warp: Accelerated Start. You start the game some years after plan-
etfall, with several bases, technologies and enhancements.
• Iron Man: Save/Restore Restricted To Exit. Autosaves are disabled except
when you actually leave the game—no going back to undo mistakes.
• Randomize Faction Leader Personalities. Leaders behave in unpredictable
ways.
• Randomize Faction Leader Social Agendas. Faction leaders do not adhere
to preset social agendas.

• Tutorial Messages. The game displays “pop-up” hints and suggestions.
• Design Units Automatically. The game gives you pre-designed units at
each appropriate technological advance.
• Auto-Prune Obsolete Units. Automatically deletes obsolete, out-of-pro-
duction units from your production readout. It is recommended that you
