DIPLOMATIC CONTACT
Before you can contact any of the other faction leaders, you must first have
their commlink frequencies. This is usually gained by coming into direct con-
tact with one of that faction’s units, but can also be gained from a third fac-
tion, or sometimes even found in a Unity pod. The Empath Guild Secret
Project also grants you the comm frequency of every faction leader.
When one of your units or bases comes into contact with the unit or base
of another faction for the first time, you usually open communications with
the faction’s leader. If you talk to another leader once, you exchange comm
frequencies. Once frequencies are exchanged, the other leader might contact
you, or you can contact him or her using your Commlink menu (see
Commlink, p. 23). When another leader calls, you don’t have to answer, and
likewise he/she might sometimes ignore your communications (particularly
in hostile situations). Once communications are underway, there are many
options.
