ScrabbleOnlinePCManInt 8/26/04 3:22 PM Page 22 MINI-GAMES MENU Best Play The SCRABBLE Online game offers four fun and challenging Mini-Games in the SCRABBLE game tradition: Best Play, SCRABBLE Blitz, LinkLetter and Diction or Fiction. The Best Play game puts you in the middle of a SCRABBLE game “in progress” and challenges you to make the best possible play with the word or rack you are given. Each time you make the Best Play, you go on to a new round.
ScrabbleOnlinePCManInt 8/26/04 3:22 PM Page 24 LinkLetter LinkLetter is an exciting game in which you “link” adjacent tiles together to form words. Timed Bonuses and Hazards add to the challenge. The goal is to keep playing until you can form no more words, or no more words are possible.
ScrabbleOnlinePCManInt 8/26/04 3:22 PM Page 26 Diction or Fiction Diction or Fiction is for real word lovers. It is a simple, fast-moving mini-game that tests your knowledge of obscure, funny, strange, tricky and rare words. Though the game is mainly for fun, it also helps true SCRABBLE game aficionados build their obscure-word capacity — a must if one plans to play in tournaments at a competitive level. All of the real words used in Diction or Fiction are officially acceptable words.

ScrabbleOnlinePCManInt 8/26/04 3:22 PM Page 32 Using timers and the timer penalty can make a game quicker and more exciting. It’s also a good way to balance a seasoned player against a less skilled player. By giving the seasoned player less time, you “handicap” that player and reduce some of the advantage that player has. To custom-set players’ timers, go to the Options choice in the Main Menu or Menu Bar. Select Game Preferences, then select Set Custom Time. • The Hold rule is employed.
