The Legal Stuff

What is Covered/Excluded.

This warranty covers the GAF

(“GAF”) accessory products installed on your roof, including

Roof Deck Protection, Leak Barrier, Attic Ventilation, Ridge Cap

Shingles, Starter Strip Shingles, and accessory paint (“GAF

Accessories”). This warranty does not cover any non-GAF roof

products.

Warranty Term.

For all installations except newly constructed

homes, coverage begins when your GAF Accessories are installed.

For a newly constructed home, coverage begins when you take title

to the property (see Transferability section below). Coverage against

manufacturing defects in your GAF Accessories (except Master Flow

products, and GAF roof accessory paint) extends for 20 years. For

Master Flow

ventilation, the warranty term for manufacturing defects

is 12 years (except motors and electronic components, which have

5-year coverage). For GAF roof accessory paint, the warranty term

for manufacturing defects is one year. (Note: Some GAF prod-

ucts may have additional coverage under their standard respective

ltd. warranties.)

Limited Warranty.

GAF Warranty Company, LLC (“GAF”),

a subsidiary of GAF, warrants to you, the registered owner of

covered GAF Accessories, that GAF will compensate you if your

GAF Accessories do not remain free from manufacturing defects

that adversely affect their performance for the warranty term

stated above.

Exclusive Remedies.

Your exclusive remedy for any covered

GAF Accessories that do not perform as stated above is:

For Manufacturing Defects.

(a) During the first 5 years, GAF will pay you the full reasonable

cost of labor to repair any part of your GAF Accessories that is

found to have a manufacturing defect that affects performance

and will provide replacement GAF Accessories. GAF will not

pay costs to tear off any roof products or dispose of them.

(b) After the first 5 years, labor is not covered. GAF’s con-

tribution to you will be based on either providing you with

replacement GAF Accessories, or, at GAF’s choice, reimburs-

ing you for the reasonable cost of obtaining replacement GAF

Accessories. The amount of GAF Accessories to be provided

will be reduced to reflect the amount of use you have received

from your roof. The amount of use will be calculated by divid-

ing the number of months which have elapsed since installa-

tion by the number of months in the warranty term.

Decisions as to the extent of repair required and the reasonable

cost of such work will be made solely by GAF. GAF reserves the

right to arrange directly for your GAF Accessories to be repaired

instead of reimbursing you for such work. The remedy under

this warranty is available only for those GAF Accessories actu-

ally exhibiting manufacturing defects at the time of settlement.

Any replacement GAF Accessories will be warranted only for the

remainder of the original warranty period. GAF reserves the right

to discontinue or modify its GAF Accessories, including the colors

available, so any replacement GAF Accessories may not be an

exact match for the GAF Accessories on your roof.

Transferability; Remedy for New Owner.

This limited war-

ranty may be transferred only once. The second owner must

notify GAF in writing within 60 days after the property transfer has

occurred and pay a fee of $50 for any coverage to be transferred.

(Other than this one transfer, this warranty may not be assigned,

directly or indirectly.) Note: If this warranty is initially registered by

a GAF Authorized Home Builder, the buyer of the home must notify

GAF in writing within 60 days of taking title to the property for

coverage to be transferred. For the purposes of transferability, the

home buyer will be considered the first owner under this warranty.

If the transfer takes place within the first 5 years after installation,

the second owner shall be entitled to all benefits contained in this

warranty. If the transfer takes place after the first 5 years after

application, the length of this warranty shall be reduced to the two-

year period after ownership changes. If there is a defect during

this two-year period, GAF’s reimbursement to the second owner

will be based only on the reasonable cost of replacement GAF

Accessories, reduced by the amount of use that has been received

from the GAF Accessories from date of installation.

Limitations on Coverage.

Even if your GAF Accessories were not

properly installed according to GAF’s application instructions, this

limited warranty remains in effect if your

GAF Accessories exhibit

manufacturing defects. However, GAF

will NOT compensate you for:

(1) Damage to your GAF Accessories resulting from anything other

than an inherent manufacturing defect in your GAF Accessories,

such as:

(a) application of your GAF Accessories not in strict

accordance with

GAF’s printed application instructions.

(b)

settlement, movement, or defects in the building, walls, foun-

dation or the roof base over which your roof system was applied.

(2) Damage to your

GAF Accessories

resulting from causes beyond

normal wear and tear such as:

(a) acts of nature, such as hail, winds (or gusts over the

wind speed coverage for the shingles that are installed), or

ice damming above the area covered by

GAF’s leak barriers

or above flashings.

(b) impact of foreign objects or traffic on the roof.

(c)

improper storage or handling of any

GAF Accessories

(3) Labor costs, except as specifically provided for above,

disposal costs, and costs relating to metal work, flashings, or

non-

GAF products.

(4) Damage to the interior or exterior of any building, including, but

not limited to, mold growth.

Sole and Exclusive Warranty.

THIS WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE

AND REPLACES ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, CONDITIONS,

REPRESENTATIONS, AND GUARANTEES, WHETHER EXPRESS

OR IMPLIED, WHETHER BY STATUTE, AT LAW OR IN EQUITY,

INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY

AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. This written war-

ranty is your exclusive warranty from GAF Materials Corporation

and represents the SOLE REMEDY available to any owner of

GAF Accessories. GAF makes NO OTHER REPRESENTATIONS,

CONDITION, GUARANTEE, OR WARRANTY of any kind other than

that stated herein. GAF WILL NOT BE LIABLE IN ANY EVENT FOR

CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR OTHER

SIMILAR DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, including DAMAGE TO THE

INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR OF ANY BUILDING, whether for breach

of this warranty, negligence, strict liability in tort, or for any other

cause. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation

of incidental or consequential damages so the above exclusions or

limitations may not apply to you.

Modification of Warranty

This Limited Warranty may not be

changed or modified except in writing, signed by an officer of GAF.

No one (other than an officer of GAF) has authority to assume any

additional liability or responsibility for GAF in connection with your

shingles except as described in this warranty. This warranty gives

you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights which

vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. (Note: Warranty subject

to change. For current information, visit www.gaf.com or write to

GAF at 1361 Alps Road, Wayne, NJ 07470 USA, Attn: Warranty

Service Department.)

Claims: What You Must Do.

You must notify GAF about any

claim within 30 days after you notice a problem and provide

proof of the date your GAF Accessories were applied and that you

were the owner at that time (or that the warranty was properly

transferred to you). You must either call GAF at 1-800-458-1860

about your claim, or send a notice in writing to GAF, Warranty Service

Department, 1361 Alps Road, Wayne, New Jersey 07470, USA.

You will then be provided with complete details about submitting

your claim. GAF may require you to send to GAF, at your expense,

sample products for testing and photographs. Within a reasonable

time after proper notification, GAF will evaluate your claim and

resolve it in accordance with the terms of this Warranty. Any claim

for GAF Accessories which have been replaced before notifying GAF

of your claim may be denied. NOTE: Notice to your contractor,

dealer or home builder is NOT notice to GAF. You should retain this

warranty for your records in the unlikely event that you need to

file a claim.

Effective Date

This Limited Warranty is effective for GAF accessory

products installed after January 1, 2011.

1. Any brand of asphalt shingles may be installed.

(Note: This warranty covers only the GAF accessory products installed on your roof; shingle coverage is provided by the shingle manufacturer.)

2. You must install at least three of the following GAF Accessories:

A. GAF Pre-Cut Starter Strip Shingles...which includes Pro-Start

™

or Weather Blocker

™

B. GAF Roof Deck Protection...Deck-Armor,

™

Shingle-Mate,

TigerPaw,

™

RoofPro,

™

or VersaShield

products.

C. GAF Leak Barrier...either Weather Watch,

StormGuard,

or UnderRoof

™

products in valleys and around all penetrations.

In areas prone to ice damming, GAF Leak Barriers are strongly recommended at all eaves to at least 24” inside the warm wall.

D. GAF Attic Ventilation...which includes any Cobra

or Master Flow

brand vent, or Vented RidgeCrest

™

Ventilation Note: Minimum net free ventilation area of 1 sq. foot per 150 sq. feet of ceiling area is required. When intake vents are located at the eaves and exhaust

vents are located near the roof’s peak (in a properly balanced system) for maximum air flow, ventilation may be reduced to 1 sq. foot per 300 sq. feet.

E. GAF Ridge Cap Shingles... which includes Timbertex,

Ridglass,

Seal-A-Ridge

Sequoia

/Canyon,

™

Ridge, or Vented RidgeCrest

™

Note: To improve the finished look of the roof, the use of GAF ShingleMatch

™

roof accessory paint is highly recommended. GAF ShingleMatch

™

accessory paint is covered by the

Smart Choice

Accessory System ltd. warranty, but does NOT count towards the required number of accessories.

3. Registration...Property owner, contractor, or home builder can register this warranty online at www.gaf.com/registermywarranty. The warranty

must be registered within 45 days after installation (or after the property has been sold if the GAF Accessories were installed by a home builder).

GAF reserves the right not to issue the Smart Choice

Accessory System ltd. warranty if the warranty is not registered within 45 days.
