Helpful hints for getting the SBD-4 working:
If the SBUS port on your receiver is a configurable port you need to make
sure it is in SBUS mode and not CH 8/9 mode. The easiest way to do that
is to hook up a conventional servo to the port and verify that it no longer
works on the SBUS port.
On the Futaba R7008SB receiver the instructions for changing the
CH8/SBUS port to SBUS mode are not accurate for some of these
receivers and can cause some confusion when changing modes.
Steps for changing the Mode on a Futaba R7008SB receiver
1. Hold down the mode button while powering on the receiver (transmitter
power not necessary but wont hurt). The green/red LED flashes.
2. My receiver always comes up in Mode A (single flashing red LED)
3. Push the mode button once to switch to mode B (double flashing red
LED)
4. Push and hold the mode button for two seconds (The Red/Green LEDS
flash continuously until you release the switch
5. The receiver red LED flashes several times and then remains lit
6. The receiver should be in Mode B. Cycle the power on the receiver and
test the port.
To verify / test the R7008SB mode change:
1. Set the receiver to Mode A (single flashing Red LED)
2. Power on receiver and transmitter
3. Assign an input to channel 8
4. Plug a servo into the shared CH8/SBUS port
5. Verify that the conventional servo works
6. Set the receiver to Mode B (see above)
7. Verify that the conventional servo no longer works
8. Plug the SBD-4 decoder into the CH8/SBUS port
9. Plug the servo into one of the programmed outputs
10. Move the corresponding input on your transmitter and verify that the
servo is working
Video Instructions:
There is a pretty good video online to show the process for switching
Modes on the R7008SB but it is not entirely accurate compared to what
happens on my receiver:

Servo Compatibility:
I spent several hours trying to verify the operation of my SBD-4 decoder
before I figured out that my older Hitec HS-422 would not work with the
SBD-4 decoder. When I switched out the Hitec servo for a BMS-621
servo the SBD-4 and servo started working as expected.
