Erase Disk
Erase Disk is a solution that is integrated into the firmware of the FUJITS U Computer
(UEFI: Unified Extensible Firmware Interface), to d elete all the data from a hard
disk or a solid state drive (SSD) memory module.
This function can be used to permanently delete all data from hard disks or SSD memory
modules, before they a re discarded or the complete com puter system is disposed of.
The function can also be used if hard disks/SSD memory modules must be completely
deleted, e.g. before installing a new operating system.
The application c an only be selected and run if an administrator/supervisor
password has been assigned (Menu BIOS Setup - Security).
Proceed as follows to d
elete data from hard disks/SSD memory modules:
► Call the BIOS Setup wi
th the Administrator/Supervisor password .
► To start the application, select Erase Disk (BIOS Setup - Advanced or BIOS
Setup - Security) and set Start after Reboot.
► Then select Save Ch
anges and Exit in the menu Save & Exit / Exit to initiate
a reboot and start E
rase Disk.
Because of the reb
oot, the Erase Disk will be started. You ha ve the option
to interrupt the
process during the user selection.
► After the application starts, the A dministrator/Supervisor password must
be entered for security reasons.
A dialogue field appears in which a particular, several or a ll the hard disks/memory
modules can be selected for deletion. T his depends on the number of hard
disks/SSD storage modules in your system.
► Select the hard d isk(s)/SSD memory modules to be deleted. The selected hard
disk(s)/SSD memory modules will be deleted one-by-one .
Erase Disk offers four deletion options, from fast (with one deletion pass) to very
secure (w ith 35 deletion passes). Depending on the algorithm chosen, the process
can take between ~10 seconds and ~10 minutes per G B:
• Zero Pattern (1 pass)
• German BSI/VS ITR (7 passes)
• DoD 5220.22-M ECE (7 passes)
• Guttmann (35 passes)
SSD dri
ves are securely erased with the Enhanced Secure Erase ATA
comma
nd integra ted in the firmware.
► Select the desired deletion algorithm for the selected hard disks/SSD memory modules.
