Using the Tablet PC
Tips for conserving battery power
Battery life depends upon the operating system, energy-saving settings and the applications in use.
You can extend the life of your battery by conserving battery power:
Use an external power source such as the mains adapter whenever the system is docked to a
Tablet Dock.
Shut down the system if you do not intend to use it for an extended period of time.
Use the energy saving options provided by the operating system to help you conserve power.
If you will not be using the Tablet PC for a short time, you can minimise and/or switch off the
screen lighting in order to save energy.
Buffer battery
The buffer battery allows the battery to be replaced while in standby mode without a loss of data. It
bridges a few minutes. The device cannot be used normally without a battery/power supply (i.e. only
with the buffer battery).
The buffer battery function is disabled if Wake On LAN is enabled in the BIOS Setup.
i
The buffer battery is not charged when the system is delivered. Charge the buffer battery
sufficiently before relying upon it to support the system in the event of battery removal.
To prevent drainage of the buffer battery, always store the system with a charged battery
installed.
If the buffer battery becomes drained, it takes approximately 8 hours for it to be fully recharged.
The buffer battery charges when the mains adapter is connected. The buffer battery only
charges from the battery when the system is in ON mode.
Modem port
The internal 56-Kbps modem module on the Tablet PC supports transmission rates of up
to 56 Kbps (receive), 33.6 Kbps (send) and 14.4 Kbps (fax). (Download rates are limited to
53 Kbps in the United States due to FCC restrictions.)
i
The Tablet PC is designed to accept a standard RJ-11 telephone plug.
Connect the telephone plug to the modem port on your Tablet PC (see "
Left panel").
The telephone plug can be installed whether or not the Tablet PC is powered up.
Contact your local help desk or dealer if you need assistance configuring the modem port.
