Connecting USB devices
You can connect external devices to the USB ports (see chapter "Notebook views", Numbers 16, 29
and 31) which also have a USB interface (e.g. a printer, a scanner or a modem).

USB devices are hot-pluggable. This allows cables from USB devices to be connected
and disconnected with the system switched on.
USB 1.x has a maximum data transfer rate of 12 Mbit / s.
USB 2.x has a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbit / s.

Ê Connect the data cable to the external device.
Ê Connect the data cable to a USB port of the notebook.

Device drivers
The devices you connect to the USB ports usually require no driver of their own, as the
required software is already included in the operating system. However, if the USB device
requires its own software, please install it from the data carrier provided with the USB
device.
Connecting external audio devices
Headphones port
Via the headphone port (see chapter "Notebook views", Number 8) you can connect either
headphones or external loudspeakers to your notebook.
Microphone jack
Via the microphone port (see chapter "Notebook views", Number 9) you can connect an external
microphone to your notebook.
Adjusting the volume
Ê Adjust the desired volume on the volume control (see chapter "Notebook views" chapter,
Number 7).

Ê To adjust the volume use the Windows volume control from the Start menu - Programs -
Accessories - Multimedia - Volume Control.
