Safety information and use 1 Safety information and use 1.1 Requirements for the user This operating manual is intended for persons assigned with operating and monitoring the Fritsch the LABORETTE 17. The operating manual and especially its safety instructions are to be observed by all persons working on or with this device. In addition, the applicable rules and regulations for accident prevention at the installation site are to be observed.
Safety information and use 1.2.1 Operating principle The LABORETTE 17 combines a frequency generator and stainless steel bath in one device. The ceramic oscillator generates high-energy vibrations at the base of the bath, creating a cavitation effect (small bubbles are constantly formed and implode) throughout the bath liquid. The change in pressure caused by the cavitation dissolves stubborn soiling at even the most inaccessible points. 1.
Safety information and use DANGER! This symbol and keyword combination points out a directly hazardous situation that can result in death or serious injury if not avoided. WARNING! This symbol and keyword combination points out a possibly hazardous situation that can result in death or serious injury if not avoided. CAUTION! Safety information and use Tips and recommendations This symbol emphasises useful tips and recommendations as wells as information for efficient operation without mal‐ function. Further designations To emphasise procedure instructions, results, lists, references and other elements, the following designations are used in this manual: Designation Explanation Step-by-step procedure instructions 1., 2., 3. ...
Safety information and use DANGER! Explosion hazard! – When dispersing oxidizable substances, e.g. metals or coal, there is a risk of spontaneous combustion (dust explosion) if the share of fine particles exceeds a certain percentage. When dispersing these kinds of substances, special safety measures must be taken and the work must be supervised from a specialist. – The high-speed rotor mill is not explosion protected and is not designed to disperse explosive materials.
Safety information and use DANGER! The device heats up during long cleaning processes. DANGER! While filling the ultrasonic cleaning bath, make sure that no water comes into contact with the switch and supply line (electrical parts). Danger of electrocution. DANGER! Do not put flammable liquids or chemicals, which contain or could break down into chloride ions, for ultrasonic cleaning in the bath. Danger of explosions and fire. DANGER! Only use aggressive cleaning fluids (for example, acids) in beakers.

Installation 3 Installation 3.1 Transport n The device is either packaged in a cardboard or wooden case. n Reach under the edge of the housing to carry the device. WARNING! Improper lifting can lead to personal injury or property damage. The machine is only to be lifted with suitable equipment and by qualified personnel. The guarantee excludes all claims for damage due to improper transport. 3.
Installation 3.4 Ambient conditions WARNING! The LABORETTE 17 must not be used: – – – – – – – – – – In humid and wet areas. At temperatures below 10°C or above 50°C. In areas with highly inflammable substances. In areas with explosive substances. In very dirty or dusty environments. In environments which contain conductive dust. In aggressive environments (e.g. salty atmospheres). In rooms with a level of dirt higher than 2 according to IEC 664.
Initial start-up 4 Initial start-up n Fill that bath with warm water up to about 3 cm below the top (see the marking on the inner surface of the ultrasonic cleaner); our cleaning solution (Order no. 17.0400.00) should be added to the water. n Connect with the mains voltage. n Switch on the device. n Let the liquid degas for a few minutes. DANGER! Do not use acid! NOTICE! Only switch on when the bath is filled with at least 10 cm of liquid. Using an empty bath will destroy the oscillator.
Using the planetary mill 5 Using the planetary mill The LABORETTE 17 is suitable for continuous operation. It is normal for the lower device components to warm up during continuous operation. This does not lead to damage. The heat generated in electrical components will for the most part be transferred to the bath. During continuous use, the device should be covered to reduce the ambient noise. Hang parts to be cleaned in the ultrasonic cleaner using an insert tray made of stainless steel (Order no.: 17.
Using the planetary mill CAUTION! Do not heat up disinfectants. 5.4 Information about the timer Operating the timer: n The device can remain connected to the mains while switched off. n Disconnect from the mains by removing from the mains plug. n The timer cannot be turned left when the device is switched off (position “0”)! 5.5 Important information about temperature Information about temperature: n Heated-up cleaning liquid intensifies cleaning.
Cleaning 6 Cleaning DANGER! Mains voltage! – Before beginning with cleaning work, disconnect the mains plug and protect the device against being unintentionally switched back on! – Do not allow any liquids to flow into the device. – Indicate cleaning work with warning signs. – Put safety equipment back into operation after cleaning work. The water should be changed regularly, as otherwise it will become contaminated.
Maintenance 7 Maintenance The device is maintenance free. – – The most important element of maintenance is regular cleaning: When cleaning the complete device, adhere to the guidelines of the Accident Prevention Regulation (BGV A3) ‐ especially if the device has been set up in a dusty environment or if the processed source material pro‐ duces dust. We recommend keeping a safety logbook Ä Chapter 11 ‘Safety logbook’ on page 26, where all work (maintenance, repairs......
