Introduction About fring fring™ is a mobile internet service & community that enables you to interact with your friends on-the-go, including make free calls, group video calls, live chat with fring users, as well as other networks. Once you've installed fring, fring's main screen displays your friends and their presence status (e.g. online, offline). This list shows the names of your fringster friends and friends from other networks.
Getting started Registering to fring Once the installation is complete, launch fring and the login screen will appear. Figure 2 – Login screen Enter your existing credentials to log in - If you’ve forgot your password you can use the password retrieval Forgot your password link below the password field.
Figure 3 – creating a fring account In the Account Setup screen you can fill in your user-ID and password, and full name, as well as your Email, your Phone number, and your Picture. The Email and phone number aren’t obligatory, but they are required for password retrieval purposes. They will also help your friends to easily find you in fring. Press Done to complete the registration and start using fring.
fring’s main screen Once you’ve logged into your account, you’ll get to the application’s main screen, where you can access all fring’s feature at a single tap. If you successfully record and hear the message that you have recorded, you're ready to go! To call the fring test call: 1.
Calling in fring Making a voice call To call a fring friend: 1. Open My Friends; choose a friend you wish to call and press the Green Call Button. 2. On your screen you can see the call screen. To end the call press End call. To make a fringOut call to a phone number: 1. Press on the list menu in the upper panel, and choose device contacts. 2. Select a phone number from the list, and press on the Green fringOut Call Button.
To call by using your dialer: 1. 2. 3. 4. Press on the list in the upper panel, and choose Dialer. Click the flag icon and select the country you would like to call. Dial the number and press fringOut call to initiate the call. On your screen, you can see the call screen. To end the call press End call.
Making a video call fring's DVQ™ (dynamic video quality) technology adjusts to your mobile operator's bandwidth to give you the best video quality possible and ensure clear audio. That means that rather than getting a standardized, basic call quality, you get the optimized video call based on your particular bandwidth. Video calls are supported to fring friends using fring on supported devices. To initiate a video call choose a fring friend from My Friends, and press the Blue Video Call Button.
Making a group video call With fring you’ll be able to video chat simultaneously with up to 3 fring friends on supported devices. To initiate a video call open the My Friends, choose the first fring friend you wish to call and press the Purple Group Video Button. Figure 14 – Initiate call Once the call has initiated, you’ll see a split screen with your camera’s output in the bottom left corner. Each friend that answers the call will be added to the screen.
Receiving calls fring allows you to both make and receive voice and video calls using your internet connection. To receive a fring call A call screen appears with the nickname of the caller. You can Accept or Reject the call by pressing the buttons in the incoming call panel. Figure 16 – Incoming Voice Call Chatting fring lets you chat with your friends using instant messaging. You can chat with one or more of your friends simultaneously, as well as chat during a fring call (video & voice).
Manage Friends From the top panel of fring’s main screen, you can toggle between the different views, add a new friend, and edit your profile, as shown below: List menu Add new friend Edit Profile List Menu By pressing on the list menu in the upper left corner of the screen, you can choose which list you’d like to display in the left panel of the screen: Choose My Friends to display all your fring and phone contacts. Choose Activity log to see and edit your recent activity.
Profiles To view and edit your profile Press on the Edit profile button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll then see your profile, where you will have the following options: Figure 20 – Edit Profile add a picture from your iPad’s memory or camera by tapping on the Camera Icon Reflect your current statues in a 140 long character mood text Edit your Full name as it will appear in your friends’ list.
fringOut In addition to fring's free services of calling, video calling and chatting to other fringsters for free, fringOut lets users call friends not yet on fring for almost-free. fring users can call landlines and mobile phones from 1c/minute. Purchase fringOut credit To purchase fringOut credit, select the ‘fringOut’ icon at the top right hand side of the screen. You can choose between a Pay as you go and a Monthly Subscription.
To learn more about fringOut and to view and manage your fringOut usage, press on My fringOut account, or go to http://fringOut.fring.com Making fringOut calls fringOut calls can be made to any of your iPad’s phone contacts: 1. Press on the list menu in the upper left corner on the screen, and choose device contacts. 2. Select a phone contact from the list, and press on the Green fringOut Call Button.
Options Adding Networks to fring Setting up networks in fring enables you to connect with users from different networks (e.g., MSN Messenger, Gtalk, ICQ, etc). To login to a network: 1. Click on the options menu located in the upper right corner of the screen. 2. Select Add networks and choose the service from the list. 3. Put your User and Password. 4. Figure 28 – Address Book Options If Show phone contacts is set to Off, your phone contacts are currently hidden. To show them, choose On. If Find phone contacts option is enabled, fring will notify you when your phone contacts become fring users. Disabling this option will prevent fring from notifying you about contacts that become fringsters. Logging out of your fring account 1. In the right side of the top panel tap on the options menu. 2. Choose the Log out option. 3.
Multitasking with fring Using the iOS4 multitasking capability, fring can work in the background while you do other stuff with your device. When you would like to hide fring, press the Home button once.
Show offline buddies To Show offline buddies in My Friends: 1. On your Spring Board, select the Settings app. 2. From the list of applications, scroll down and choose fring. 3.
