that when a domain name is requested (as in typing easyDNS.com into an Internet
browser), the user is sent to the proper IP address. The DNS server address used by the
computers on the home network is the location of the DNS server the ISP has assigned.
DHCP Dynamic Host Control Protocol provides a framework for passing configuration
information to hosts on a TCP/IP network. DHCP is based on the Bootstrap Protocol
(BOOTP), adding the capability of automatic allocation of reusable network addresses
and additional configuration options.
Dynamic IP An IP address that is automatically obtained from a DHCP server.
Ethernet A popular local area data communications network, which accepts transmission from
computers and terminals. Ethernet networks are connected by special cables and hubs,
and move data around at up to 10 million bits per second (Mbps).
Encryption Data passing between a base station and clients can use encryption to protect from
interception and eves-dropping.
FTP File Transfer Protocol: A TCP/IP protocol used for file transfer.
Firmware Software stored in a non-volatile memory.
IEEE 802.16e A standard that provides mobile broadband wireless access using Scalable Orthogonal
Frequency Division Multiple Access (SOFDMA).
IP Address Internet Protocol address consists of a series of four numbers separated by periods, that
identifies an single, unique Internet computer host. Example: 192.34.45.8.
ISP Internet Service Provider is a business that provides connectivity to the Internet for
individuals and other businesses or organizations.
LAN Local Area Network is a group of computers and devices connected together in a
relatively small area (such as a house or an office). A home network is considered a LAN.
