Probe handle
The enhancement of the metal detector as described
in this section requires a few additional parts not included
in the kit. These are common household articles or cheap
and easily available objects like wire straps, screws, a
broomstick, a PVC tube, etc. Manual skills are also required.
Using a broomstick for
the probe handle
You can attach the flip pack to a handle (a wooden
broomstick), so that you can operate the search coil with-
out physical effort near ground level in order to recover lost
objects.
For this purpose you have to cut four holes into the bot-
tom side of the flip pack. The locations for these openings
are printed to the outside of the bottom of the box. Cut out
the holes with small scissors (nail scissors) or punch them
into the cardboard bottom by means of a pointy object.
If you want to use a broomstick, it will be advisable
to cut it to the desired length and to bevel one end. Mark
the locations of the holes in the bottom of the cardboard
box on a wooden lath or a plywood board of approx. 12–
14cm length. The board should stick out beyond the box
for approx. 3–4cm. Now drill four holes with a diameter of
2.5–4mm into the wooden lath. Drill two additional holes
