Provide adequate ventilation
General ventilation is usually adequate. Local exhaust may be
preferred if cutting/machining processed cause localized heating
of material.
Reduce dust concentration at point of
generation
Local exhaust and general ventilation is recommended for any pro-
cesses which produce wood dust at concentrations that approach
sage exposure levels.
Reduce accumulation of dust in work
areas.
Regular removal of wood dust from work areas if recommended.
For removal of ne dust, vacuum methods are preferred.
Personal Protective Equipment
Breathing Protection
If safe exposure levels are approached or exceeded; wear NIOSH
approved breathing protection. For exposure to wood dust; nui-
sance dust respirator is usually sucient. For formaldehyde, use an
appropriate cartridge or supplied air respirator.
Skin Protection
Cover skin to prevent prolonged or repeated skin contact
Eye Protection
Wear safety glasses and/or chemical dust goggles.
Fire Prevention Measures
Avoid contact with open ame. Avoid contact with oxidizing
agents and drying oils. Prevent accumulations of ne dust
particles.
Inhalation
Remove to fresh air. Obtain medical attention if irritation persists,
severe coughing or breathing diculties occur.
Eyes
Flush with water to remove loose dust particles. Obtain medical at-
tention, if irritation persists or when adhering particles are believed
to remain following water rinsing.
Skin
Keep skin free of dust; wash with water. Obtain medical attention,
if rash or persistent irritation is suspected.
