Convert to PDF/A, PDF/E, or PDF/X using the Save As command
1. Click File > Save As.
2. In the Save As dialog box, select PDF/A, PDF/E, or PDF/X from the file types.
Optionally, click Settings to select more options for the conversion.
3. Specify the filename and location for the output file and click Save.
If the conversion fails, a message pops up telling you the generated document is not
compliant with the selected standard and you can use the Preflight command to
identify the problems that prevent the document from being compliant.
The Standards panel in the navigation pane
When you open a PDF file that conforms to PDF/A, PDF/E, PDF/X, or PDF/UA standard,
the Standards panel icon automatically appears on the left side of the navigation pane,
giving you a quick way to view the standards information of the PDF. You can choose
View > Navigation Panels > Standards or click in the navigation panel to open
the Standards panel. In the Standards panel, you will find the following information:
Conformance: shows the standard used to create the file, the ISO name, and whether
the file has been verified as standard compliant. If the file has not been verified yet,
you can click Verify Conformance in the Standards panel to start the conformance
verification. If the verification fails, click Open Preflight under the standards
information in the Standards panel to open the Preflight dialog box to run preflight
inspections as needed. See also the Preflight dialog box.
OutputIntent: indicates the color settings associated with the file.
PDF versions
When creating or optimizing PDFs, you can choose which PDF version to use by
selecting a compatibility option (a version from 1.3 to 1.7). The latest version includes
all the newest features and functionality. Generally, it’s recommended to use the most
recent version (in this case 1.7) unless you are required to use a backward
compatibility. Your choice does not affect the functionality in the generated PDFs if
they are processed in Foxit PDF Editor, which is designed based on version 1.7 and
supports all the functionality of each version. If processed in non-Foxit PDF
applications, the generated PDFs may have differences in some of the PDF
functionality when you choose different versions. For the details about the differences,
