Create a table of contents from bookmarks
You may want to conveniently create a table of contents (TOC) from existing
bookmarks for a hierarchy structure when viewing a PDF file. Foxit PDF Editor offers
two ways to create a table of contents. The new TOC page will be inserted in the
beginning of the PDF.
To create a TOC page when merging multiple files into a single PDF file, please
select “Add a new table of contents page converted from bookmarks” in the
Combine files into a single PDF dialogue box. The TOC page will be created from
the bookmarks of the selected files. The original filename of each file will be the
first-level heading of TOC, each of which is followed by the bookmark hierarchy of
the file. The hierarchy of headings are numbered such as 1, 1.1, 1.2, 2, 2.1, 2.2,
and so on. By default, the TOC includes up to 5 levels with the corresponding page
numbers in the PDF. The second, third, fourth, and fifth level headings are
indented. For a file without any bookmarks, only the filename will be inserted to
the table of contents as the first-level heading of TOC.
To create a table of contents in a current PDF, please select New TOC from
bookmarks from the Options menu on the Bookmarks panel. Select the
bookmark levels you want converted in the Add a new content of table dialog
box. The TOC page will be created from the bookmarks of the current PDF,
