ambidextrous slide stop or pushing the slide slightly rearward. Be sure
to have a firm grip on the slide as it is under pressure of the recoil
spring.
THE PISTOL MUST BE COMPLETELY UNLOADED TO PERFORM
STEP 5. AGAIN, ENSURE THE PISTOL IS COMPLETELY
UNLOADED BY PULLING BACK THE SLIDE AND INSPECTING THE
CHAMBER AND THE MAGAZINE WELL. FAILURE TO FOLLOW
THIS WARNING COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
5. While keeping the rear of the slide and the rear of the frame in
alignment, point the muzzle in a safe direction and squeeze the
trigger to release the striker. The slide will move forward ¼" when
properly released.
6. After releasing the striker you can remove the slide by forcefully pulling
the slide forward away from the frame. (Figure 16). Extra force may be
necessary to remove the slide from the frame. If the striker is
inadvertently recocked, return to step 5.
7. Hold the slide upside down.
8. While gently compressing the recoil spring, release the rear from the
barrel lug and then lift the spring up and out of the slide (Figure 17).
