Addendum 2017

2
The FN M249S PARA it fitted with a shorter barrel assembly that has a welded muzzle device. Its legal barrel length, with
the fixed muzzle device is 16.1 inches. Rifled barrel length is equivalent to 14.7 inches without the muzzle device length
added.
NOTE: The PARA muzzle device is permanently welded in place. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE IT. Attempting
to do so will cause permanent damage to the barrel assembly, may create an unsafe firearm, may violate federal
regulations and will void you rifle’s warranty.
WARNING
Before manipulating or making any adjustments to the buttstock assembly: clear the rifle, ensuring there is no
ammunition present in the rifle as explained in Section 17 of the Operator’s Manual, place the safety in the safe
position as explained in Section 10 and insert the Manual Bolt Lock Device as explained in Section 12. Always
keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Failure to follow these warnings may result in serious
injury or death.

3. PARA Buttstock Assembly
The collapsible PARA buttstock assembly is installed on the FN M249S PARA in place of the standard polymer fixed
buttstock assembly. It allows for a collapsed position, making the rifle more compact for more efficient storage and
transport. See Figure 2. When removing or installing the PARA buttstock assembly on the rifle, ensure it is in the
extended or deployed position.
3.1 Operation of the PARA Buttstock Assembly
The PARA buttstock can be collapsed to minimize the overall length of the FN M249S PARA for transport or storage. To
collapse the buttstock, first ensure the rifle is completely cleared of ammunition as explained in Section 17 of the
Operator’s Manual, then:
1. Keeping the rifle pointed in a safe direction, grab the buttstock frame at the buttplate and pull it to the rear about
1/8
th
inch. While holding it to the rear, rotate the buttstock frame counter-clockwise 90 degrees
(as viewed from behind the rifle). See Figure 3.
2. With the buttstock frame now horizontal, tap the buttplate forward. The buttstock frame will collapse and the frame
rods will slide alongside the sides of the receiver. Continue to push the buttstock frame fully forward to the locked
position. See Figure 4
3. The buttstock assembly will lock in the collapsed position.
