ConnectingtoBusTopologies
Telephonecableswiredinabustopology(Figure8)
connectthewalloutletsinseries.Inthistopology,you
measurethelengthfromthelastoutlettothe
distributioncenter.
Ifyouconnecttoanoutletinthemiddleoftheseries,the
testerreportsabridgetap.Thelengthreportedisthe
lengthtotheoutlet,whichisthepatchcordlength.The
testercannotmeasurelengthpasttheoutletbecause
reflectionsfromthecablesoneithersideinterferewith
measurements.
Tip:Toquicklyverifythewiremapsoftelephonecabling
connectedtoabridgetap,usetheMultiMap
functioninDISCOVERmode.Seepage46.
Ifyouareunsurewhichoutletisthelastinthebus,dothe
following:
1 ConnectthewiremapadapterorIDlocatortothe
beginningofthebusatthedistributioncenter.
2 Connectthetestertoanoutlet.Turntherotary
switchtoDISCOVER.
3 Ifthetesterreportsabridgetap,movetoanother
outlet.Thelastoutletwillnotshowabridgetap,and
willshowthelengthtothedistributioncenter.

IPapplication;however,thequalityofservicemayvary
dependingonotherfactors.Thesefactorsincludethe
qualityofthetransmissionsystembetweenthefar-end
VoIPdeviceandyourcabling,theequipmentused,and
theequipment’sQoS(qualityofservice)settingsand
performance.
