DEFINITIONS

Active RTD The flow element part that senses the fluid flow rate.

Balance A number that is used to balance or match the

active and reference RTDs when the heater is off.

Control Circuit The portion of the flow switch that conditions, converts, and scales

the flow element signal.

Differential resistance

Delta -R (

DR) The flow element signal.

Differential temperature

Delta -T (

DT) The difference in temperature between the active and

reference RTDs.

Flow element The portion of the flow switch that contains the thermowells, RTDs,

and produces a signal with a defined relationship to the flow rate.

Heater (HTR) The flow element part that heats the active RTD.

Reference RTD The flow element part that senses the fluid temperature.

Remote enclosure The enclosure that contains the control circuit, and is

connected to the flow element by an electrical cable.

Resistance Temperature

Detector (RTD) A sensor whose resistance changes proportionally to detector

temperature changes.
