Generallocationrequirements
Whenselectingalocationfortheunititisimportantto
consideranumberoffactors.

thatthedisplayistemporarilypoweredupandtested,at
thechosenlocation,priortoinstallation.
Ventilationrequirements
Toprovideadequateairflow:
Ensurethatequipmentismountedinacompartment
ofsuitablesize.
Ensurethatventilationholesarenotobstructed.
Ensureadequateseparationofequipment.
Mountingsurfacerequirements
Whenselectingamountingsurfaceensure:
theproductwillbeadequatelysupportedonasecure,
flatsurface.DoNOTmountunitsorcutholesinplaces
whichmaydamagethestructureofthevessel.

Cableroutingrequirements
Ensureyouhaveidentifiedtheroutethatallrequired
cableswilltakeandthatsufficientspaceisavailableto
allowconnectionofcables:
Unlessotherwisestated,aminimumcablebend
radiusof100mm(3.94in)isrequired.
Wherenecessary,cablesupportsshouldbeusedto
preventstressonconnectors.
Electricalinterference
Selectalocationthatisfarenoughawayfromequipment
thatmaycauseinterference,suchasmotors,generators
andradiotransmitters/receivers.
Powersupply
Selectalocationthatisascloseaspossibletothe
vessel’sDCpowersupply.Thiswillhelptokeepcable
runstoaminimum.
RFinterference
Certainthird-partyexternalelectricalequipmentcan
causeRadioFrequency(RF)interferencewithGNSS
(GPS),AISorVHFdevices,iftheexternalequipmentis
notadequatelyinsulatedandemitsexcessivelevelsof
electromagneticinterference(EMI).
Somecommonexamplesofsuchexternalequipment
includeLEDlighting(e.g.:navigationlights,searchlights
andfloodlights,interiorandexteriorlights)andterrestrial
TVtuners.
Tominimizeinterferencefromsuchequipment:
KeepitasfarawayfromGNSS(GPS),AISorVHF
productsandtheirantennasaspossible.
Ensurethatanypowercablesforexternalequipment
arenotentangledwiththepowerordatacablesfor
thesedevices.
Considerfittingoneormorehighfrequency
suppressionferritestotheEMI-emittingdevice.The
ferrite(s)shouldberatedtobeeffectiveintherange
100MHzto2.5GHz,andshouldbefittedtothepower
cableandanyothercablesexitingtheEMI-emitting
device,ascloseaspossibletothepositionwherethe
cableexitsthedevice.
Compasssafedistance
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationforyourproductyou
shouldaimtomaintainthemaximumpossibledistance
betweentheproductandanyinstalledcompass.This
distanceshouldbeatleast1m(3ft)inalldirections.For
smallervesselsitmaynotbepossibletoachievethis
distance.Inthissituationensurethatthecompassisnot
affectedbytheproductwhenitispoweredon.
EMCinstallationguidelines
Raymarine®equipmentandaccessoriesconformto
theappropriateElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC)
regulations,tominimizeelectromagneticinterference
betweenequipmentandminimizetheeffectsuch
interferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyour
system
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMC
performanceisnotcompromised.
Note:
Inareasofe
xtremeEMCinterference,someslight
interferencemaybenoticed.Wherethisoccursthe
productandthesourceoftheinterferenceshouldbe
separatedbyagreaterdistance.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthat
whereverpossible:

aymarine®equipmentandcablesconnectedtoit
are:
Atleast1m(3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmitting
orcablescarryingradiosignalse.g.VHFradios,
cablesandantennas.InthecaseofSSBradios,the
distanceshouldbeincreasedto2m(7ft).
Morethan2m(7ft)fromthepathofaRadarbeam.
ARadarbeamcannormallybeassumedtospread
20degreesaboveandbelowtheradiatingelement.
Theproductissuppliedpowerfromaseparatebattery
fromthatusedforenginestart.Thisisimportantto
preventerraticbehavioranddatalosswhichcanoccur
iftheenginestartdoesnothaveaseparatebattery.
OnlyRaymarine®specifiedcablesareused.
Cablesarenotcutorextended,unlessdoingsois
detailedintheinstallationinstructions.
Note:
Whereconstraintsontheinstallationpreventany
oftheaboverecommendations,alwaysensurethe
maximumpossibleseparationbetweendifferent
itemsofelectricalequipment,toprovidethebest
conditionsforEMCperformancethroughoutthe
installation.
