heat.Avoidrunningcablesthroughbilgesordoorways,orclosetomovingorhotobjects.
•Whereacablepassesthroughanexposedbulkheadordeckhead,useawatertightfeed-through.
6.4Compasssafedistance
Topreventpotentialinterferencewiththevessel'smagneticcompasses,ensureanadequate
distanceismaintainedfromtheproduct.
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationfortheproductyoushouldaimtomaintainthemaximumpossible
distancefromanycompasses.Typicallythisdistanceshouldbeatleast1m(3.3ft)inalldirections.
Howeverforsomesmallervesselsitmaynotbepossibletolocatetheproductthisfarawayfroma
compass.Inthissituation,whenchoosingtheinstallationlocationforyourproduct,ensurethatthe
compassisnotaffectedbytheproductwhenitisinapoweredstate.
6.5Radarscannermountingangle
EnsuretheRadarscannerrotatesparalleltothewaterline.
TheRadarbeamfromtheRadarscannerisapproximately25°wideintheverticaldirection,togive
goodtargetdetectionevenwhenyourvesselpitchesandrolls.
Planinghullvessels,andsomedisplacementhullvessels,adoptahigherbowanglewhenthevessel
isatcruisingspeed.ThismayraisetheRadar’smainradiationangle,andcancausepoordetection
ofnearbytargets.Itmaybenecessarytocompensateforthebowrisetoensureoptimumtarget
detection.Thiscanbeachievedbyfittingawedgeorwashersbetweenthemountingplatformand
thebaseoftheRadarscanner,sothattheRadarbeamremainsparalleltothewaterlinewhenthe
vessel'sbowrisesatcruisingspeed.
