Cabletypesandlength
Itisimportanttousecablesoftheappropriatetypeandlength.
UnlessotherwisestatedonlyusecablessuppliedbyRaymarine.
Whereitisnecessarytousenon-Raymarinecables,ensurethattheyareofcorrectqualityand
gaugefortheirintendedpurpose.(e.g.:longerpowercablerunsmayrequirelargerwiregaugesto
minimizevoltagedropalongtherun).
Cablerouting
Cablesmustberoutedcorrectly,tomaximizeperformanceandprolongcablelife.
DoNOTbendcablesexcessively.Whereverpossible,ensureaminimumbenddiameter(Ø)of
200mm(7.87in)/minimumbendradius(R)of100mm(3.94in).
Protectallcablesfromphysicaldamageandexposuretoheat.Usetrunkingorconduitwhere
possible.DoNOTruncablesthroughbilgesordoorways,orclosetomovingorhotobjects.
Securecablesinplaceusingcableclipsorcableties.Coilanyexcesscableandtieitoutoftheway.
Whereacablepassesthroughanexposedbulkheadordeckhead,useasuitablewatertight
feed-through.
DoNOTruncablesneartoenginesorfluorescentlights.
Alwaysroutedatacablesasfarawayaspossiblefrom:
otherequipmentandcables,
highcurrentcarryingACandDCpowerlines,
antennas.
Strainrelief
Useadequatestrainreliefforcablingtoensurethatconnectorsareprotectedfromstrainandwillnot
pulloutunderextremeseaconditions.
Circuitisolation
AppropriatecircuitisolationisrequiredforinstallationsusingbothACandDCcurrent:
Alwaysuseisolatingtransformersoraseparatepower-invertertorunPC’s,processors,displays
andothersensitiveelectronicinstrumentsordevices.
AlwaysuseanisolatingtransformerwithWeatherFAXaudiocables.
Alwaysuseanisolatedpowersupplywhenusinga3rdpartyaudioamplifier.
AlwaysuseanRS232/NMEAconverterwithopticalisolationonthesignallines.
