EMCinstallationguidelines
RaymarineequipmentandaccessoriesconformtotheappropriateElectromagneticCompatibility
(EMC)regulations,tominimizeelectromagneticinterferencebetweenequipmentandminimizethe
effectsuchinterferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyoursystem
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceisnotcompromised.
Note:InareasofextremeEMCinterference,someslightinterferencemaybenoticedonthe
product.Wherethisoccurstheproductandthesourceoftheinterferenceshouldbeseparated
byagreaterdistance.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwhereverpossible:
•Raymarineequipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:
–Atleast1m(3.3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingorcablescarryingradiosignalse.g.VHF
radios,cablesandantennas.InthecaseofSSBradios,thedistanceshouldbeincreasedto2
m(6.6ft).
–Morethan2m(6.6ft)fromthepathofaradarbeam.Aradarbeamcannormallybeassumedto
spread25degreesaboveandbelowtheradiatingelement.
•Theproductissuppliedfromaseparatebatteryfromthatusedforenginestart.Thisisimportant
topreventerraticbehavioranddatalosswhichcanoccuriftheenginestartdoesnothavea
separatebattery.
•Raymarinespecifiedcablesareused.
•Cablesarenotcutorextended,unlessdoingsoisdetailedintheinstallationmanual.
Note:
Whereconstraintsontheinstallationpreventanyoftheaboverecommendations,alwaysensure
themaximumpossibleseparationbetweendifferentitemsofelectricalequipment,toprovidethe
bestconditionsforEMCperformancethroughouttheinstallation.
Suppressionferrites
•Raymarinecablesmaybepre-fittedorsuppliedwithsuppressionferrites.Theseareimportantfor
correctEMCperformance.Ifferritesaresuppliedseparatelytothecables(i.e.notpre-fitted),you
mustfitthesuppliedferrites,usingthesuppliedinstructions.
•Ifaferritehastoberemovedforanypurpose(e.g.installationormaintenance),itmustbereplaced
intheoriginalpositionbeforetheproductisused.
•Useonlyferritesofthecorrecttype,suppliedbyRaymarineoritsauthorizeddealers.
•Whereaninstallationrequiresmultipleferritestobeaddedtoacable,additionalcableclipsshould
beusedtopreventstressontheconnectorsduetotheextraweightofthecable.
Connectionstootherequipment
Requirementforferritesonnon-Raymarinecables
IfyourRaymarineequipmentistobeconnectedtootherequipmentusingacablenotsuppliedby
Raymarine,asuppressionferriteMUSTalwaysbeattachedtothecableneartheRaymarineunit.
Compasssafedistance
Topreventpotentialinterferencewiththevessel'smagneticcompasses,ensureanadequate
distanceismaintainedfromtheproduct.
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationfortheproductyoushouldaimtomaintainthemaximumpossible
distancefromanycompasses.Typicallythisdistanceshouldbeatleast1m(3.3ft)inalldirections.
Howeverforsomesmallervesselsitmaynotbepossibletolocatetheproductthisfarawayfroma
compass.Inthissituation,whenchoosingtheinstallationlocationforyourproduct,ensurethatthe
compassisnotaffectedbytheproductwhenitisinapoweredstate.
