5. Fire Fighting Measures

Extinguishing Media
Suitable: Small fires: Water foam, water fog, water
Large Fires: Water, water foam, water fog
Unsuitable: Dry chemicals and snow extinguishers are less suitable.
Special Fire Fighting Procedures
Use water spray to cool fire-exposed containers and structures.
Special Protective Equipment for Firefighters
Use personal protective equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus when fighting fire in enclosed areas.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards
Toxic chlorine may be released. Carbon oxides may be formed during fires. Sodium oxide may also be formed.
6. Accidental Release Measures
Personal Precautions
Wear protective clothing when taking up spills. Always eliminate any ignition sources.
Environmental Precautions
There are no known environmental hazards associated with the use of this product.
Methods for Clean-up
Product as supplied may be swept up and disposed in appropriate waste containers. Tablets should be dissolved
before disposing of in drain with large amounts of water. Diluted product may be mopped.
Wet floor may be slippery. Use care to avoid falling. Small spills: Mop material and dispose of properly. Note: see
section 8 for personal protective equipment and section 13 for waste disposal.
7. Handling and Storage
Handling Precautions
Normal precautions should be followed in handling. Avoid contact with other acidic products as well as strong bases
and oxidizing agents.
Storage Requirements
Normal precautions should be followed in storage. Store in a cool dry place. Keep away from heat and flame.
Other Precautions
Product shelf life is best retained by storage at 10°C – 37°C.
8. Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
Engineering Measures
Engineering controls are not usually necessary if good hygiene practices are followed. Provide general dilute
ventilation.
Hygiene Measures
Wash hands thoroughly after handling compounds and before eating, smoking, using lavatory, etc. Remove
contaminated clothing and clean it before re-use. Do not take internally.
Respiratory Protection
No special, respiratory protection is normally required. Nuisance dust can be irritating.
Hand Protection
Wear compatible gloves.
Eye Protection
Appropriate eye protection should always be worn when handling chemicals. Splash resistant eyewear is
recommended when splashing is a concern.
Skin Protection
Wear protective clothing, such as long sleeves, to minimize skin contact.
