4.03 CUTTING ATTACHMENT AND CUTTING TORCH
OPERATIONS
When performing cutting operations:
1. Inspect the torch head, valves, cutting oxygen lever, cone end,
coupling nut, and hose connections. Look for dust, dirt, grease,
oil, other flammable substances and damaged parts. Remove
dust and dirt with a clean cloth that is free of grease, oil, or
other flammable substances.
WARNING
DO NOT use the cutting torch attachment if grease, oil,
other flammable substances or damage are present! Have
a qualified repair technician clean the cutting torch or
attachment and repair any damage.
2. Inspect the cone end of the cutting attachment for missing or
damaged a-rings before using (see Figure 5).
WARNING
There MUST be two (2) sealing o-rings on the cone end.
The absence of either o-ring creates a condition that
allows pre-mixing of oxygen and fuel gases. This can lead
to backfire within the torch handle or cutting attachment
(see Figure 5).
3. Inspect the torch head. The tapered seating surfaces MUST be
in good condition. Have a qualified repair technician resurface
the seat if it has dents, burrs or is burned. A torch with poor
seating surfaces may backfire and flashback. This could result
in damage to the equipment or injury to the operator.
