2. Continue opening the fuel valve until all smoke and soot are
removed from the flame (see Figure 9). If you cannot clear all
the smoke from the flame, increase the pressure on the fuel
regulator until the smoke clears. DO NOT exceed 15 pounds on
the regulator setting if using acetylene. If the smoke still does
not clear, use a hose with a larger diameter or shorter length.
WARNING
DO NOT exceed 15 pounds on the regulator setting if using
acetylene. Acetylene can dissociate (decompose with
explosive violence) above this pressure limit.
3. Slowly open the oxygen valve until a bright inner cone appears
on the flame. The “Neutral Flame” is the point at which the
feathery edges of the flame disappear and the sharp inner cone
is visible (see Figure 10).
