Securing the final deck board using start/stop fastener method
(Option 1)
NOTE: Only applicable for installation of at bottom board. Start/
stop fasteners are not approved to secure boards with a scalloped
bottom.
Position the start/stop fastener (AA) on the inside of the rim
joist and secure it with a single screw (DD) into the rimjoist.
Space the start/stop fasteners (AA) no greater than 12 in.
apart.
Position the nal deck board. Secure the deck board by
angling a screw (DD) through the fastener and into the board
at a 30°–45° angle.
Ensure that the screw inserts fully and pulls the deck board
down.

using the face fasten method
Pre-drill the nal deck boards with a 1/8 in. bit along the
outside edge of the deck board at every support joist.
Ensure that the holes at the end of the board are a minimum
of 1-1/2 in. from the board end.
Ensure that the holes along the grooved edge are a minimum
of 1 in from the side of the board.
Secure the nal deck board using a minimum

Installing the hidden fasteners
Insert the single tab of a hidden fastener (BB) into the side
groove of the deck boards at every joist. The single tab should
engage the deck board by a minimum of 5/16 in.
Center the fastener screw hole on the joist.
Use the butt joint fastener (CC) to secure the ends of two
boards.
Secure the hidden fasteners (BB) to the joist using a screw
(EE) angled toward the rst deck board. Do not overtighten.

Installing the remaining boards
Position the next deck board against the fastener tabs and
slide the board onto the tabs. When installed properly, the
hidden fastener (BB) will ensure a 3/16in. gap.
Repeat installing the hidden fasteners (BB) and positioning
the boards to complete the deck.
